Teaching:

January 2003 to date

As Assistant Professor(January 2003 to July 2003); Associate Professor(August 2003-January 2006) and Professor(February 2006 to Date)at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad Pakistan I have been teaching various subjects and supervising projects at undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Telecommunication Engineering. Some of the subjects I taught are listed below:

Electric Machines, Electric circuits, Electronics, Digital logic design, Computer architecture, Computer Organization, Advanced Computer Architecture, Analogue Communications, Antenna and Radio-wave Propagation and Wireless Communications.

Research:

To date I have published 50 research papers in different conferences and journals of international repute (List attached). Four students are conducting research for their PhD under my supervision. I am also HEC (Higher Education Commission of Pakistan) approved PhD supervisor.

Management:

As Director COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Wah (one of the seven campuses of CIIT) since OCT 2010 I am heading a multi disciplinary Campus imparting quality higher education and looking after the interests of hundreds of faculty members and thousands of students. I am responsible to Rector CIIT for the operation and the management and for the execution of all directives of BoG and of the Chancellor. Some of my key responsibilities are:

  • Running of day to day affairs of the campus
  • Implementation of code of conduct and rules and regulations for recruitment/selection, leaves, transfer, examination, registration etc
  • Prepare annual budget of the campus and get it approved from Financial and planning committee of the institute
  • Plan for the coming months & years, the requirements of the Campus in terms of faculty, students, labs, new programs and related infrastructure
  • Visualize new projects, prepare development projects and seek its funding from Provincial and Federal Governments and agencies abroad
  • Establish Industry-academia linkage by organizing industrial exhibitions, seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Establish working relationship with International Universities
  • Establish environment conducive to research and development

As Dean Faculty of Engineering (February 2006 to Date)at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad Pakistan I am responsible for academic, programmatic, managerial, and fiscal aspects of the Engineering Faculty. I monitor academic integrity, confer degrees, and responsible for student recruitment, admission, and academic progress. I am also responsible for establishing and maintaining a culture of compliance and integrity among faculty, staff, and students and to provide directions and resources for the research, education and training of the faculty members. I convene meetings of board of faculty of engineering in which all academic related aspects of engineering programs are discussed and decided i.e. launching of new engineering programs, devising of new curriculum and improvement of existing curriculum in order to make it compatible with international standards yet meeting local requirements, policies regarding examination, registration and grading. I also communicate with local community, including industry, business, accreditation bodies and other academic institutions in order to promote our institute and to assist in the placement of our graduates. I have played major role in establishment of academic relationship with many international Universities and in recent past we have started Dual Degree program with Lancaster University UK.

As Chairman/Head of Electrical Engineering Department (August 2003-January 2006) some of my roles and responsibilities were to ensure quality and appropriateness of curriculum, management of departmental budgets, monitoring of expenditure against allocations, establishment of an appropriate departmental organizational and committee structure, recruitment and selection of staff (both academic and technical) and staff appraisals, convening and chairing departmental committees and Board of Studies meetings at regular intervals and liaison with national/international Universities and other organizations. I have been instrumental in getting accreditation of all engineering programs offered in our institute by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and Washington Accord. I have been working collaboratively with HoDs, admin functionaries, Director Campus and Rector CIIT on strategic and operational matters of the Institute.

Industrial:

(March 2002 to December 2002)

As Senior Engineer in Newt International Ltd. at Portsmouth UK I was responsible for design, development and manufacturing of Electromagnetic Array(EMA) Inspection System (EMA Receiver) for defect detection, imaging and sizing of the metallic structures and components, using DSP techniques.

(April 2001 to March 2002)

As Senior Development Engineer in European Antennas Ltd. at Cambridge UK my duties were to design and develop micro-strip antennas using EM software, and their subsequent construction. Organize the building of prototype antennas test plans and environmental testing. Liaison with customers and suppliers and to ensure the smooth progression of the project and its timely conclusion. I was also responsible to ensure that the design/development procedures should be carried as per company's quality system.

(January 1989 to March 1995)

As Assistant Engineer in Department of Electricity at Kashmir Pakistan some of my responsibilities were to supervise and work within a team constructing, installing, maintaining and repairing High/Low voltage electric power transmission/distribution lines, electrical power transformers, generators, motors and power station control equipment. My duties also included to monitor industrial/domestic billing, energy pricing and purchase of electrical equipment. Liaising with senior officers policymaking and public dealing
