time / Training in orthopedic work .Took 3 clinic per week ,was seeing 20 patients per session , 3 on call per week , admitting around 3-10 patients per call , responsible for 30 patients in the ward. The training is mainly of acute emergency cases, dealing with emergencies.
I attended the theatre once a week, responsible for preoperative and postoperative follow up.
Training in general surgery, Took 3 clinics per week, one on call per week, was responsible for 20 beds in the ward. I attended the theatre once every week and was responsible for preoperative and postoperative follow up. General surgical cases included acute and chronic surgical cases. I attended one surgical clinical meeting every week.
General medicine training .Took 3 clinics weekly, seeing about 10 patients per session. On call 3 per week. Admitting 8-10 patients per call, mainly acute general medical cases and emergencies. Dealing with infections constituted significant part (about one quarter) of my work (typhoid, meningitis, malaria etc.).Had special training in how to deal with infectious diseases. Active clinical and theoretical meetings three times weekly.
Training in neurosurgery. Took 3 clinics per week, one on call and was responsible for 30 beds in the ward. I attended the theatre once a week and was responsible for pre-operative and post-operative follow up. Has special emphasis in training in the management of brain injury .Attended twice weekly clinical and theoretical lectures and meetings.
General neurology training .Took 3 clinics per week, seeing about 8 – 10 patients. Responsible for 20 beds in the ward (variable neurology cases). Took 2 on calls weekly, managing emergency and acute neurological cases (up to ten cases). Frequent CSF aspirations (2-5 daily).Training in assessing neurological disability. Attend weekly theoretical lecture in Neurology, journal club and weekly neuroscience meeting. Attending and observing EMG/NCV session once weekly.
Training in general neurology. Took 4 clinics per week, seeing about 10 patients with various neurological conditions (acute and chronic) at each session. Looking after 20 beds ward including a spectrum of all common neurological cases. Two calls weekly, admitting about 10 patients. Infections of the CNS were common (constituted about 10 – 15 % of our work).Supervising housemen and nurses. Attending theoretical and clinical presentations at the twice weekly meetings of the department. Attending EMG/NCVS session once weekly. Attending and observing EEG reporting session once weekly. Teaching housemen in neurology once every 2 weeks, clinical and theoretical neurology.
Training in intensive care and neurology. Responsible for 5 beds at the intensive care unit, the majority were neurological, like status epileptics, severe Guillain barre, severe myasthenia crisis, severe head injury, and cerebrovascular insult following surgery. Training in artificial nutrition and respiratory support through practical and theoretical sessions. Had one on call per week. One clinic and one on call per week at the neurology department.
Training in Neuro-Rehabilitation and neurology. Took 4 clinics per week, 2 neuro-rehabilitation, and 1 neurology. Responsible for 25 bed ward with neuro-rehabilitation cases, mainly stroke, head injury spinal cord injuries, peripheral neuropathies and hereditary neuropathies.
Training in general medical practice, general medicine, neurology and traumatology. Took 2 clinics per week, responsible for 20 beds, supervise SHOs and nursing staff. Exposures to high turn over of trauma cases, many of them due to shell and bullet injury during the Iran Iraq conflict. In between these episodic casualties , I was seeing high turn over of common general medical , neurological , psychiatric , pediatric and obstetrical conditions , dealing with the majority of them and referring the rest of them to the general hospital of the province if required. The common neurological conditions which were received in the ward and OP were stroke , epilepsy , Parkinson's disease , headache
And CNS infections. Infections constituted about 15-20 % of work. Gained experience with leprosy cases.

Training in neuro-ophthalmology. Took 3 neuro-ophthalmology clinics weekly, one on call per week and was looking after 15 beds in the ward. Cases included general ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology. Continued to take one clinic and one on call weekly at the neurology department keeping in contact with general neurology. Training included methods on neuro-ophthalmologic diagnosis through clinical learning and attending sessions of neuro-ophthalmologic investigations like perimetry and how to interpret results, as well as attending the fluorescence angiography to document the early doubtful cases of papilloedema. Attended the theatre once weekly, mainly for the neuro-ophthalmic cases.

Training in Neuron-Psychiatry and neurology.
Took 3 clinics per week at psychiatry department seeing 10 – 15 patients, each. Responsible for 20 beds at psychiatry ward. On call 2per week at psychiatry, 1 at neurology. Attending twice weekly lectures and clinical meetings at psychiatry dep. Attend twice weekly ECT sessions, 5-8 patients each.
Special emphasis on training in the psychiatric manifestations of common neurological syndromes, acute organic brain syndromes, psychiatric presentations of common medical and neurological conditions and management of movement disorders induced by anti-psychotic medications.
Training in clinical neurology. Took 3 clinics weekly seeing about 10 patients with various neurological conditions (acute and chronic) at each session. He passed the final written examination from the first trial in Dec. 1992. He passed the final clinical examination from the first trial in April 1993. He ranked the first grade among fifty-fife postgraduate students.
Training in clinical neurology and research
Methodology. Took 2 clinics per week. Responsible for 20 beds at neurology ward. One on call per week. Cases included acute and chronic neurological conditions, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, MS, peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia, with many rare neurological conditions. Supervising SHOs, registrars, and nursing team. Teaching undergraduate once weekly, postgraduate twice weekly and nursing staff once every two weeks (theoretical and clinical). Organizing the scientific activities of the department. Join in management meeting with the hospital administrators. Had 2 month training course in research methodology (half day, 4times weekly) at Baghdad Medical school, which included: how to plan a research project, medical statistics, and ethical issues, how to read a paper, and how to write a paper.
Training in neuro-radiology. Attended all activities of the department including general radiology and neurosciences weekly meetings. Attended formal theoretical lectures, case presentations, film viewing and reporting sessions, clinicoradiological meetings and diagnostic workshops on interpretations of plain films and CT of the head and spine, cerebral angiography, radioisotope scanning and myelography.
Training in neurophysiology. Attended as observer in EEG recording, NCV/EMG and EP, then started to perform NCV/EMG techniques and reporting on EEG and EP under supervision. Joined in discussions of referred cases and in the activities of the department and shared in the research done at the department. Trained in neurophysiology of acute neurological cases like Gillian Barre, acute myasthenia cases. And impaired consciousness. Acquired good practical and theoretical knowledge of neurophysiology.
Doing Consultant job in neurology. Took 4 clinics and 2 on call per week. Work included general neurology, acute and chronic cases. Responsible for supervising registrars, SHOs and nursing team in the neurology ward (20 beds). Organizing the scientific activities of the department and sharing in lectures, seminars, clinical ward rounds and the weekly combined neurosciences meeting. Teaching postgraduate neurology and other specialties students in clinical and theoretical neurology twice per week. More involvement in the management of meetings and daily communications. In the last year given full consultant authority officially by the higher Iraqi committee of Medical Specialties as well as full responsibilities to supervise postgraduate students in neurology.
Consultant in Neurology, in Baghdad Teaching hospital, the main teaching hospital of Baghdad Medical College of Baghdad University. Took 2 clinics and one on call per week, work is including general neurology, acute and chronic cases. Responsible for supervising registrars, SHOs and nursing teams in the neurology ward (25 beds). Joining the teaching staff of medical college, Baghdad University by giving one clinical session in neurology to the fifth year medical students per week and one clinical session to the sixth year (final year) medical students per week. Being always a member of the examining committees of the undergraduates in Internal medicine. Supervising 2 postgraduate students in neurology, one third year candidate, one final year candidate as well as one Internal medicine board student for his three months training time in neurology during his scheduled program of training. Attending and sometimes organizing one clinical meeting in general neurology and one monthly meeting on epilepsy. Last year Being a member of the examining board of the postgraduate student in Neurology as well as member of the team evaluating the thesis presented by the final year students. Has special interest in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and has a significant role in establishing the Iraqi MS clinic in Medical city (Baghdad Teaching Hosp) which is the only MS clinic in the middle east. Now the MS clinic is looking after 900 MS patients, giving variable sorts of therapies including (Interferones, Methylprednisolone, Synacthene, and cytotoxic therapy mainly the Azothioprim and xitomatrone), as well as physiotherapy, rehabilitation programs and psychiatric assessment.
