Field of specialisation:

Precambrian Palaeobiology (micro-macro) heterogeneous group of fossils belonging to Archaean and Proterozoic rocks in different basins (Vindhyan, Chhattisgarh, Bhima, Iron Ore, Marwar, Prahanta Godavari includingGanga);Nine synclines of Krol beltand Buxa Group of Arunachaland Sikkim in Indian Subcontinent. The preservations of recovered biological remains are categorised into three types-cellular, permineralised and biomineralized. Varieties of biological remains are:

  1. Algae:Micro-macrofossils of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, Acritarchs, biorelics-stromatolites
  2. Lower group invertebrates:VSM (Chitinozoa), Scolecodonts, Sponges, Annelids, arthropods etc.
  3. Biorelics: Stromatolites and associated microbiota
  4. Applied aspects: Hydrocarbon potential source rocks

After biomolecular fossils, the varied types morphology of the bio-fossils with their alterationare most important and play key role pertainingto understand the lineage, diversification, evolutionary trends, biostratigraphy, age, palaeoecology and environs and possible applied aspects in Indian subcontinent and also relationship with other continents.

  2. To study the macroscopic biological remains with their affinities.
  3. Morphotaxonomy of stromatolites and associated biota.
  4. To deduce age, biostratigraphy, palaeoecology and palaeoenvironments.
  5. Hydrocarbon potential source rocks.
  6. Inter-intra basinal correlation with equivalent sediments.
