Date: March 21th 3rd Quarter – Weekly Review #8

This assignment is due on March 28st at the start of the class period. No late papers will be accepted. Do NOT copy – if a question/paper is found to be copied, all students involved will receive a zero for the assignment. Please show all formulas and formula substitutions, when needed. Please show all appropriate work – following the guidelines we discuss in class – in order to earn full credit. ALL FRACTIONS SHOULD BE IN REDUCED FORM.

1. Solve the following systems of equations, algebraically, using the specified method.

a. Solve the system using the substitution method. (5 points)
6x + y = -6
4x + 3y = 17 / b. Solve the system using the elimination method. (5 points)
2x + 3y = 17
5x + 8y = 20

2. Find the inverse of the function, given (3 points)

3. Solve for all values of . x4 – 72 = x2 (6 points)

4. Simplify the expressions. (total 7 points)

a. b. c. d.

5. A new snowmobile is purchased at a price of $4200. The value of the snowmobile decreases by 9.3% each year. Write an exponential equation to model this situation, using y as the value, in dollars, and t as the time, in years, since the purchase of the snowmobile.

Find the value of the snowmobile after 2.5 years, to the nearest hundred dollars.

To the nearest tenth of a year, when will the value of the snowmobile be equal to one-fourth the original value? (At this point in the year, you WILL NEED a GRAPHING CALCULATOR for this last question). Please state the window range used in the solving process. (8 points)

6. Solve the system algebraically or graphically. y – 2x = -6 (6 points)

2y = x2 – 4x

7. Solve for x: (5 points)
