Welcome and Introduction / Principal, Meghan Echlin introduced herself, along with Vice Principal Andrea Sekine. A brief introduction was exchanged by the newly elected Parent Council Members, followed by the attending teachers and parents. / 6:30-6:50
Administration’s Update: /
  • The idea of Monthly Calendar and Weekly updates were put up for debate, where one would be a digital copy while the other a printed hard copy.
  • The OP Mission-Vision-Values and acronym are being reviewed to make them more student-friendly and up-to-date.
  • The Council Members and parents were informed how the use of new mathematical manipulatives and strategies will bring about a change in how children will go about solving their Math problems, involving more Mental Math techniques and developing basic facts and operational skills in numeracy.
  • Application of using Cash Online to pay for any and all extra-curricular expenses.
  • Advantages of the new and improved Synrevoice to send mass or targeted emails to Parents/Guardians who have submitted their e-mail addresses to the school office.

What’s happened at OP to date? /
  • Terry Fox Run. The approx. amount raised was $ 5,054.00
  • The school held three Spirit Days in the month of September; Crazy Hair Day, Pajama Day, and Jersey Day.
  • The Fall Open House and Parent Council Elections, along with the French Book Sale and OP Jazz jersey sale were held on Thursday, 6 October, 2016.

Future Scheduled Events at OP /
  • Picture day on 14 October 2016.
  • Trip to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
  • Gr. 3’s trip to Crawford Lake, in support of their Social Studies curriculum.
  • Running Club meets. One held at Erin Dale Park and the other at OPP.
  • Auditions and practice meetup of the Junior Choir.
  • Gr. 5 Lego Robotics Club.
  • A trip to the Police Academy to better understand Cyber Crime for Gr.5 students in November 2016.
  • An opportunity for all students (K-5) to experience Jungle Sports during the 21st-25th November 2016 (Subsidized rates provided thanks to the Outdoor Education Grant).
