NAfME All-National Honors Ensembles

Information Sheet

Cost

Students may select either double (2 to a room) or quad housing (4 to a room). The cost is $850 and $650 respectively. The fee includes music, housing, activities, transportation to/from airport and concert venue, and meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner – Monday and Tuesday, Breakfast and Box Lunch-Wednesday). Student fees can be paid by check or credit card.

Student Housing:

All students will be staying at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Conference Center. Students will be assigned either one or three roommates depending on the selected housing option. Students MAY NOT room with parents or other family members. Unfortunately, roommate requests cannot be honored.

Student Arrival and Departure

Students should arrive at the Gaylord Opryland between 2:00pm and 6:45pm on Sunday, October 26.

Bus shuttles from the Nashville airport to the Gaylord Opryland will run beginning at 9:00am on Sunday and continue every 30 minutes until 7:00pm. Family members and/or teachers accompanying students are permitted to ride the shuttles.

Students may depart from Nashville on Wednesday, October 29 after 2:00pm. Air travel should not be scheduled before 3:30pm to allow for travel time after the concert to the airport. Shuttles for students will begin running to the airport at 2:00pm, immediately following the concert.

A NAfME All-National Honor Ensemble Greeter will be at the airport to direct students to the shuttles.

Students travelling by air MUST provide a copy of their flight itinerary to NAfME prior to arrival. These should be sent electronically to as soon as available.

Student Check-In

All activities take place in the Delta section of the Gaylord. The easiest way to get to the check-in area is to arrive at the Delta Portico entrance.

Student registration will be from 2:00pm – 7:00pm in the following areas:

Band, Jazz Band – Delta Ballroom D

Orchestra – Delta Ballroom B

Choir – Delta Ballroom C

Students will meet their chaperone, receive room keys, schedule, and badge at this time.

Rehearsals

The first meeting/music run through begins Sunday, October 26th at 7:00pm. Students MUST be present for all rehearsals and meetings. Late arrivals on Sunday and/or Monday are not permitted.

Chaperones

NAfME member teachers and/or administrators will serve as group chaperones. Each student will be assigned to a chaperone group of no more than 20 students. The chaperone will be responsible for checking students in, responding to any problems, and serving as the student’s main point of contact during the program. Chaperones will be assigned in September.

We encourage students to travel with a family member or teacher. Parents and family members may NOT be group chaperones and therefore are not eligible for the chaperone conference registration rate of $700. Music

You are expected to come to Nashville prepared to rehearse. Music will be sent to you digitally through a drop box link e-mailed to you, your parents, and your teacher. Original music will be provided to you when you check-in in Nashville.

Instruments, etc.

You must bring your own instrument, accessories (reeds, strings, mutes, cello floor boards, etc.), and music stand. Stands will not be available for rehearsals. Please mark all equipment with your name and address. Percussionists will be notified as to what equipment will be necessary to bring. Please use every precaution to protect your equipment and luggage. NAfME and the 2014 All-National Honors Ensembles accept no responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen articles. Your belongings are your responsibility.

If you need to rent an instrument for the rehearsals/performance, you must make these arrangements.

Attire:Rehearsals - School clothes: fully covered upper torso (no tube tops, belly shirts). Pajamas are not acceptable.

Concert - Boys: White dress shirt, long plain dark tie, plain dark jacket and trousers or plain

dark suit.

Girls: Long-Sleeved black blouse and floor-length black skirt or Long-Sleeved floor-length black dress. Skirts or dresses should be worn with black hose.

Both: Black dress shoes: no boots, clogs or sneakers. Girls should wear flats.

Activities for Parents/Family Members:

Parents and family members are invited to attend all free events and ticketed events, including:

  • General Session and Keynote by Ben Folds – Sunday 4:30 – 6:00pm (free)
  • Boston Brass Concert – Sunday 9:00 – 10:00pm (free)
  • NAfME Central Exhibit Hall – Monday and Tuesday 8:30 – 9:30am and 11:00am – 4:00pm (Badge required at other times)
  • Give a Note Extravaganza – Wildhorse Saloon – Monday 8:00pm – 10:30pm ($50 includes 1.5 hours of open bar and food). Proceeds benefit Give a Note Foundation.
  • U.S. Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus – Tuesday, 7:00pm – 9:00pm (Free)
