NAEA’s Educating America Program Gaining Ground

More Schools Offering Enrolled Agent Education

(Washington, DC) October 12, 2016—TheNational Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) Educating America initiative, developed to raise awareness of the enrolled agent (“EA”) career option, is spreading to colleges across the country. While most students are aware of careers in accounting and bookkeeping, fewer are aware of the EA license, the most expansive license awarded by the IRS.

Enrolled agents are tax specialists. Not only do they prepare taxes, but they have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS for audits, collections and appeals. Unlike CPAs and tax attorneys, EAs are federally licensed, allowing them to practice anywhere in the U.S.

Mention a career in taxation and most students think about becoming a CPA. To become an enrolled agent, candidatesmust pass a stringent, three-part exam administered by the IRS, the Special Enrollment Exam (“SEE”).Unlike the CPA exam, there is no degree required in order to take the SEE.NAEA has partnered with Gleim Publications to create a course that prepares students to pass the SEE. The Educating American program was created to make information about this course available to students nationwide.

  • Bucks County Community College (PA)
  • College of San Mateo (CA)
  • Thomas Nelson College (VA)

NAEA members around the country have been visiting schools with information on the enrolled agents career. Since August, they’ve spread the word at the Beta Alpha Psi conference in Baltimore, Penn State University, San Francisco State University, Terra State Community College and Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton campus. Future scheduled engagements are;a career fair at Grafton High School, Atlantic Cape Community College and four sessions of the Drake Update Seminars.
