Mariken Kramer

My work is to a large extent based on my observation of people interacting in the world around me.
I am interested in the individual in conjunction with others and the innate vulnerability in interpersonal relations.
My videos have a nonlinear structure, where the focus is on communicating a certain sentiment rather than a logical story.
In my sculptures and drawing I have used humour to portray certain issues. These works have a more playful appearance, but the playfulness is intended as a starting point for reflection around more serious aspects of the subject. Depending on the situation, my works are shown either individually, or as elements in installations combining video with photography and sculpture.

In addition to my own individual work I am a member of the artist group The G.U.N.-Ladies (Get Used to the Name). We have worked on a number of joint projects since 2001, the latest of which has been the establishment of The White Tube, a new space for contemporary art, at Tøyen Subway Station in Oslo in October 2006.
