My Research Interest Involves Computer Networking .In US, There Are Many World-Renown

My research interest involves computer networking. In US, there are many world-renown researchers and laboratories working on medium access control design, routing, and network quality of service (QoS) guarantee, which are the sub-domains that I am particularly interested in.

As real-time applications (e.g., voice over IP and video streaming) rapidly grow, provisioning QoS to these applications is one of the most important issues for next-generation wireless and mobile communication systems. Although the communication protocols of resource allocation have been specified in wireless standards such as IEEE 802.16 and IEEE 802.15.4, the design of resource management is still an open issue. Without an appropriate resource management policy, some critical service flows could suffer from the lack of available bandwidth, and the service quality of these flows cannot be guaranteed due to the increase of delay, jitter and pack loss. Moreover, since the network resource (such as time, frequency and code) in the wireless networks are very limited, over-dimensioning the resource could led lost calls and lost revenues due to the congestion at busy hours. Based on above discuss, it is therefore critical to design an efficient policy such that 1) QoS requirements of the applications are satisfied and 2) achieving global resource efficiency. To achieve this, the admission control, routing, packet scheduling, link scheduling, channel assignment and interference measurementshould be jointly consideredin the design.

I have been doing research on network QoS guarantee for three years. During my research years, I surveyed more than 300 papers and wrote 8 papers in this field (5 have been accepted or published by international journal/conference). Based on my previous research experiences, I have well-prepared myself for future challenges in network QoS guarantee. In the future, I would like to continue my prior research on QoS guarantee. There are many issues that we have not fully explored; for example, the consideration of physical channel conditions. Recent work only assumed an ideal channel condition and ignored the packet errors. However, the schedule would be infeasible when burst error occurred, and therefore the QoS cannot be fulfilled. In addition, modelingthe stochastic performance of link scheduler is also an interesting topic. The modeling work is even more difficult when considering QoS guarantee. I would like to establish the model using the realistic traffic model. In fact, many probabilistic techniques, such as renewal random process and stochastic approximation, are very useful on modeling network and performance analysis, respectively.Along with studying networking, I am also attracted to probabilistic analysis. I am well acquainted with the probabilistic analysis, and I had the TA experiences of the course Advanced Computer Network,a graduate-level course focuses on probabilistic technical and theoretical details in wireless networks.
