My Name Is Amy Rosselli, and I Am the Office Assistant for Young Life Here in the Capital

Dear Parents, June 1, 2012

My name is Amy Rosselli, and I am the office assistant for Young Life here in the Capital Region. We are excited that your child is going on the trip to Lake Champion, and are confident that they are going to have the best week of their lives! This letter contains the information you will need to know about our trip.

Health Forms: There are two health and consent forms included in this letter. The two-sided form is required by NYS and needs to be filled out completely. It does not need to be signed by a doctor, but make sure to complete both sides. Please make sure to include immunization dates, insurance information, and required signatures on this form. Note that “Up to date” is not sufficient for immunization dates according to NYS. You may, however, include a photocopy of your child’s immunization record if that is more convenient.

The second, shorter form is so that we have the vital information for the bus ride home, as camp keeps the longer form. We would appreciate the return of these forms to us by Thursday, June 21. If you are unable to meet this deadline, please let me know and you can bring them to the bus rather than mailing them at the last minute.

Balance: If you have not paid your balance yet, please send it along with the forms. The balance is due to us by Thursday, June 21. If for some reason you are late getting the balance to us, again, please let me know and you can just bring it to the bus along with your Health Forms. The total cost for the trip is $615, so if you paid a $100 deposit, your balance is $515. Please contact me if you have questions regarding your balance.

Please send forms and checks to Young Life in the Capital Region at P.O. Box 1466, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Make checks payable to Young Life.

Males and females are housed in separate buildings.

What to Bring:

  • Casual warm weather clothes (T-shirts, shorts,)
  • Comfortable footwear (Sneakers/sandals) Sneakers are required for the ropes course
  • Casual clothes for cool nights (sweatshirt, jeans)
  • Swimsuit
  • Beach towel (bath towel and linens are provided)
  • Toiletries, and sunscreen
  • One nice casual outfit (girls, skirt and blouse, guys, nice pants and a collared shirt).
  • Also bring an additional outfit (including a pair of closed toe shoes) that you can get really muddy and throw away. Please remember to bring a second pair of sneakers.
  • Spending money: All meals and activities at camp are included in the price, but you will need money for meals en-route, and if you plan on buying anything at the camp store or snack bar.

Small lockers have been installed in each of the camper rooms for you to use for storing valuables. Please bring your own lock to use with these lockers. There are locks in the office you can rent with a $5 deposit. You will get this back when you turn in the lock.

Prescription drugs are required by NYS to be collected and administered by the camp doctor or EMT. Medicines like inhalers or epipens can be kept by the camper. Please bring all medications in their original container.

Mp3 players: Feel free to bring these for the bus ride, but they will be collected and safely stored when we arrive at Lake Champion, and returned when we leave.

Cell Phones: Cell phones are also collected upon arrival at Lake Champion. To reach your child during the week, please call the camp office

(845-856-6871), and a message will be relayed to them. For outgoing calls, pay phones are available. You might want to bring a watch if your phone is your primary way of keeping time.

Smoking: Although we, in Young Life, discourage tobacco use, there is a small designated area at camp where kids may smoke if they need to. We don’t want kids picking up the habit while they are at camp, so we encourage you to talk to your child about the dangers and risks of tobacco use before we leave.

Alcohol and non-prescription drugs: Do not bring either of these substances to camp. Young Life reserves the right to send a camper home, at the expense of the parents, if caught with these substances.
