MY COUNCIL TAX – USER GUIDE

My Council Tax is a new service which allows customers to manage their Council Tax or Business Rates account online.

This guide provides step by step instructions. Click on one of the following to take you straight through to the guidelines:

·  Access your Council Tax or Business Rates account

·  Set up a Direct Debit to pay your Council Tax

·  Request a Single Person Discount

·  Cancel a Single Person Discount

·  View a summary of your Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit claim

·  Report a change of address

Step 1 - Go to www.telford.gov.uk/mycounciltax

Step 2 - On the Introduction page under Account Details click on the start button

Step 3 – First find your property by entering your postcode and clicking on the Find Address button.

You will be presented with a list of properties with your postcode

Click on the Property Reference number next to your address

Select whether your property is domestic (a house in which you live or own) or commercial (a business property) and click on Enter/Continue

Step 5 – Enter your Account Details then click Enter/Continue

You can find your Account Reference and Online Key on the top right hand corner of your bill.

Step 5 – Select an option to

·  View your account details

·  View account notices

·  Update your contact details

·  Switch to paperless billing

·  Notify us of a change

View Account Details will show you a summary of your account including the outstanding balance, instalments due and payments you’ve made.

View account notices to see your bill and any reminders

Update your contact details to amend your contact phone number(s) or email address

Switch to paperless billing to receive your bills electronically in the future.

Step 1 – Go to www.telford.gov.uk/mycounciltax

Step 2 – On the Introduction screen select Update Council tax Details and click on the Start button

Step 3 – Select New notification of Council Tax change and click on the Start button

Step 4 - Tell us whether you are the owner, tenant, landlord or agent of the property and click on Enter/Continue

Step 5 – Tell us your name and contact details and click on Enter/Continue

Step 6 – From the Questions screen select Pay Council Tax by Direct Debit and click on the Start button

Step 7 – Tell us your Council Tax account reference number (found on the top right hand corner of your latest bill) and click on Enter/Continue

Step 8 – Check that the correct address is displayed and click Enter

Step 9 – Read the information about what is required to set up a direct debit. To proceed you must be the account holder, the only person required to authorise a direct debit on the account and have the bank account number, sort code and the name of the account ready. Click on Enter/Continue.

Step 10 – Tell us your bank details, select a payment date and click on Enter/Continue

Step 11 – Check you have entered your details correctly and click on the Submit button

Step 1 – Go to www.telford.gov.uk/mycounciltax

Step 2 – On the Introduction screen select Update Council Tax Details and click on the Start button

Step 3 – Select New notification of Council Tax change on click on the Start button

Step 4 – Tell us whether you are the owner, tenant, landlord or agent of the property and click on Enter/Continue

Step 5 – Tell us your name and contact details and click on Enter/Continue

Step 6 – On the Questions screen select Applying for a Single Person Discount and click on the Start button

Step 7 – Enter your Council Tax reference number (found on the top right hand corner of your bill) and click on Enter/Continue

Step 8 – Check that the address shown is correct and click on Enter/Continue

Step 9 – Tell us the date you became the only adult occupier, if someone has moved out or died or whether you have always been the only occupier and click on Enter/Continue

Step 10 – Tell us about anyone who has moved out. If there is more than one person click on the Add button. When you have finished, click on Enter/Continue.

Step 11 – If you know it, tell us the new address for anyone who has moved out and click on Enter/Continue

Step 12 – Tell us any further information that you think we need to know and click on Enter/Continue

Step 13 – Next submit your notification by click on the Continue button

Step 14 – Read the declaration, tick the box to agree and then click on the Submit button

Step 15 – Your request is now complete and you can click on the Exit button

Step 3 – Select New notification of Council Tax change and click on the Start button

Step 4 – Tell us whether you are the owner, tenant, landlord or agent of the property then click on Enter/Continue

Step 5 – Tell us your name and contact details and then click on Enter/Continue

Step 6 – On the Questions screen select Cancel a Single Person Discount and click on the Start button

Step 7 – Tell us your Council Tax reference number (found at the top right hand corner of your latest bill) and click on Enter/Continue

Step 8 – Check that the address shown is correct and click on Enter/Continue

Step 9 – Tell us the date that you want us to cancel your Single Person Discount, how many people over 18 live with you and click Enter/Continue

Step 10 – Tell us about the people aged over 18 who live in your property, if there is more than one click Add Another then click Enter/Continue

Step 11 – Tell us whether this is the main home for other occupants, their relationship to the property and whether they are a partner of the liable person. Then click Enter/Continue

Step 12 – Tell us any further information that you think we need to know and click on Enter/Continue

Step 13 – Next submit your notification by clicking on the Continue button

Step 14 – Read the declaration, tick the box to agree and then click on the Submit button

Step 15 – Your request is now complete. If you want to pay by direct debit click on Enter/Continue otherwise you can click on the Exit button

Step 1 - Go to www.telford.gov.uk/mycounciltax

Step 2 - On the Introduction page under Benefit Details click on the Start button

Step 3 – Enter your name, National Insurance number, date of birth, claim reference number (found at the top right hand corner of your notification letter), your Council Tax online key (found in the top right hand corner of your latest Council Tax bill then click on Enter/Continue

You will then been asked to read and sign a declaration then click on Submit.

You can now view the details of your Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support claim including your weekly entitlement, payment dates and amounts.

Step 1 – Go to www.telford.gov.uk/mycounciltax

Step 2 – On the Introduction page select Update Council Tax Details and click on the Start button

Step 3 – Select New notification of Council Tax change and click on the Start button

Step 4 – Next tell us whether you are the owner, tenant, landlord or agent of the property and click on Enter/Continue.

Step 5 - Tell us your name and contact details and click Enter/Continue

Step 6 – On the Questions screen select Buying or Selling a Property and click on the Start button

Step 7 – Tell us if you are selling a property in the Telford & Wrekin area or not and click Enter/Continue

Step 8 – If you are selling a property in the Telford & Wrekin area tell us your Council Tax reference number (found at the top right hand corner of your bill) for the address you are selling and click Enter/Continue.

If you are not selling a property in the Telford & Wrekin area go to Step 13

Step 9 –Confirm that the address details match the property that you are selling then click Enter/Continue.

Step 10 – Tell us the completion date for your old property and click Enter/Continue.

Step 11- Tell us if everyone who lived at your previous address is moving with you then click Enter/Continue.

Step 12 – Tell us if you are moving to an address within the Telford & Wrekin area and click Enter/Continue

Step 13 – Tell us your new address by entering the postcode and clicking on Find Address

Step 14 – Now click on the Property Reference Number for your new address

Step 15 – Confirm the correct address details are showing then click on Enter/Continue

Step 16 - Tell us whether you are the owner, tenant or another occupier at the new property then click on Enter/Continue

Step 17 – Tell us the date you bought the property, your moving in date and click Enter/Continue

Step 18- Tell us if you want to apply for a single person discount at your new address and click Enter/Continue

Step 19 – Tell us whether you know the previous occupant’s new address and click Enter/Continue

Step 20 – Tell us whether you know who has bought your previous property and click Enter/Continue

Step 21 - Tell us whether you know the new owner’s solicitor’s details and click Enter/Continue.

Step 22 – Tell us if there is anything else you think we need to know and click Enter/Continue

Step 23- Check your address details are correct and click on Continue

Step 24 – Read and agree the declaration the click the Submit button

Step 25 - Your request is now complete and you can click on the Exit button.
