  1. Fernando Gutierrez updated the committee on Academic Project/Dismissal forFall 2012 to Fall 2016. A handout was distributed with a five year trend on students who re-enrolled that was placed on academic probation/dismissal status. There are 14 different statuses but he clumped them into 3. These numbers are hinged on our policies and procedures of statuses.

Discussions

Student who had a low GPA from another college and is doing well at MSJC is a good candidate for a petition. They have academically improve which is one of the criteria to grand a petition.

  1. Enrollment is responsible to send out letters to students who are on Academic Project/Dismissal letting them know of their standings and the consequences. They are presently creating this letter which will be sent out January 14, 2017. It was suggested the letter could invite them to a workshop to help them improve.
  2. An additional Proposed Goal/Objective was approved by the committee:“Identify recommendations to submit a recommendation(s) to College Council or MAC.”
  3. This proposal will be submitted to Academic Senate as an information item for their review before submitting to CC or MAC.
  4. Assessment Related Course Additions: Per Angela, three new courses were added; Math 60, English 94 and non-credit Math sequence. To get into Math 60 or 94 a pre-requisite co-requisite form will be needed. Non-credit is under discussion.
