Old Business:

IFCA Awards—What to do with the IFCA Awards that are presented at the Iowa and Iowa State Football Clinics? Do we present them at the IFCA Clinic?

Discussion followed. Motion by Bob Howard, seconded by Scott Heitland to amend the previous motion to read that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association will present all the awards that we have presented at the Iowa and Iowa State Football Clinics at the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Clinic and the awards that we have presented at the State Championship Games in the UNI-Dome will remain in the UNI-Dome at the State Championship Games. Motion carried.

IFCA Constitution Changes—The IFCA Constitution needs to be changed and updated in regards to the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Board Of Directors’ Meeting locations and dates. Motion by Kevin Bowman, seconded by Cory Faust to have a 2nd vote at the IFCA Board Of Directors’ Fall Meeting. Motion carried.

New Business:

Shrine Committee

With the new NCAA rule change in regards when college football teams can begin practice, both the North and South Shrine Teams have lost a few players. In 2018, the game will move up a week which will hopefully eliminate this problem. Doug Winkowitsch from West Delaware and Sam Anderson from Urbandale will be the Head Coaches in 2018.

Playoff Advisory

Our current Playoff Proposal is a 9 game regular season schedule with 32 qualifiers and all classes look the same in the post-season. The question is do we want a “back-up” plan in the event that our proposal is rejected or are we sticking with 9 game regular season schedule with 32 qualifiers. Discussion occurred. It is very hard for us to determine and decide what our “back-up” plan is or would be until the Classification Committee meets in September. Their has also been discussion in regards to the seeding of the Semi-Finals. As of now, we have been unable to come up with a way to do it.

Other Business:

Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Combine—Scott Heitland and Aaron Shipley presented to the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Board Of Directors an idea and proposal that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association look into the possibility of the IFCA sponsoring and hosting IFCA Combines for High School Football Players. Scott and Aaron provided the following reasons to the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Board Of Directors for an IFCA Combine.

  1. Promote football and our own kids here in the State Of Iowa.
  2. Provides a way for the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association to make money.

The IFCA Combines would be held on two weekends in May (one weekend before State Track and one weekend after State Track). Discussion followed. Motion by Jerry Staton, seconded by Lyle Alumbaugh for Scott and Aaron to move forward with the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Combine and that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Board Of Directors is in support of the Combine.

Regional Meetings—Will be held on Wednesday November 8th at 7:00 PM at eight sites across the state. IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler will confirm the previous seven sites. Maquoketa will be added as an eighth site for 2017.

Scholarship Rule—Coach Winkler and Coach Anliker will continue to pursue where we go from here with the Scholarship Rule.

“Friend” Of The Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Plaque for Bobby Elliott—It was suggested that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association present a “Friend” Of The Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Plaque to Bobby Elliott’s family. Discussion followed and it was decided that we should not create a new award, but rather nominate Coach Elliott for an award that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association already has.

Jerry Staton—Coach Staton had the following items, information, and ideas for the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association.

  1. Need to call UNI and find out why they are not an IFCA Member.
  1. Retired Coaches’ Club. Cory Faust made a motion, seconded by Scott Heitland that the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association support the Retired Coaches’ Club. Motion carried.
  2. Concussions/CTE And Football—We need to endorse the rules that have been put in place.
  3. We need to add a Doctor to the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association Board Of Directors especially with the issues that football is facing in regards to concussions.
  4. Youth Football—We need to take a “stand” in regards to youth football. We also need to take an in-depth look into what Iowa City Regina is doing with their youth football program and playing “Flackle Football”.
  5. IFCA Coaches Wives’ Association—This would be a way to get information on the values of football to Moms (“Football Mothers’ Club”). Discussion followed and it is our hope to begin the Iowa Football Coaches Wives’ Association at the IFCA Clinic in the spring.
  6. Rugby Tackling
  7. The elimination of the Kickoff Return (put the football at the 25 yard line).

Motion by Lyle Alumbaugh, seconded by Bill Shafer to adjourn. Motion carried.
