Egypt Projects16-17

Much of the information needed for the projects will be provided in class during the course of studying Egypt. They can research the topic from handouts, textbooks, library books or Internet sites. Students will need to complete the project at home and bring the finished project on the due date for a class display. Grade Rubrics and more details will be provided once projects are chosen.

  1. Egyptian “How To” Book – This can be handwritten or typed.Write and illustrate a book detailing How to make a mummy. To complete this project, you must mummify an actual chicken leg. Keep notes and take pictures (like a photo journal) of each step of the process. Allow 2 weeks’ minimum to complete.Finished book should be 15 – 20 pages long. See Mummies made in Egypt by Aliki as example.

Must reference 3 sources, of which one can be electronic i.e. internet, in the report.

  1. Build a scale model of an actual, real pyramid or temple. Idea source:
    Project base (supporting board)may not be larger than 20”x20”. Exterior should include temples,causeways orwives’ pyramids, depending on which Pyramid you do. Interior walls should be decorated and include funerary objects with the mummy. Include a 1-2-page report (12 pt font) identifying which pyramid the model is of (owner and location), list of materials used and a brief summary of your steps. (Similar to a How-To essay)

  1. Tomb Painting – Tri-Fold Display board, show traditional Egyptian style art by drawing figures, daily life, and gods & goddesses as needed for the afterlife. Include writings in hieroglyphics in the style of The Book of the Dead.Include a one-page report (12 pt. font) identifying the mural’s style.This can be original or a copy of an actual tomb painting.

Must reference 3 sources of inspiration, of which one can be electronic i.e. internet, in the report.

  1. Make an ABC book of Egyptian vocabulary. Each page (26) must give letter, word, definition, and an original YOUR OWN WORDS, 10+ word-long, Egypt themed sentence using word in context.Include a detailed picture.This can be done as a slide show.List of possible vocabulary words to use is throughout Egypt notebook.
  1. Egyptian Gods book, List 26 gods and goddesses with colored pictures and original sentences describing their roles and characteristics. Hand written and Hand drawn. Internet or copies will lose points.26 pages minimum. List of gods available online and in class.
  1. Build a scale model of an Egyptian house - Base board may not be larger than 20”x20”. Exterior should be painted or textured. Interior should be decorated with typical Egyptian household items. Include a one page report (12 pt font) identifying your sources, list of materials used and a brief summary of your steps. Report must reference 3 sources, of which one can be electronic i.e. internet.
  1. Make a salt dough relief map of Egypt.Make and color realistic terrain. Include a key of symbols for landmarks, ancient cities, pyramid and temples. Trade routes could be shown also. Base may not be larger than 20”x 14”. Rimmed cookie sheets work well.
