Position Overview
Network Leads are student leaders who help welcome new members of the UW Bothell community, including first-year students, transfer students who self-identify as Students with Disabilities, Students with Children, First Generation, International, Students of Faith, LGBTQ, and/or Veteran.
Successful Network Lead candidates must exhibit leadership qualities both inside and outside of the classroom, be passionate about helping others, and possess a desire to provide additional support to new students associated with the Networks program. Network Leads will have a desire to work collaboratively and provide a welcoming transition to all new students.
Qualifications
& Expectations
- Must have, and maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA or better throughout duration of employment*
- Must be an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 10 credits per quarter (not including summer quarter)
- Must be in, and remain in, good standing with the University (including compliance with the Student Code of Conduct and financial obligations)*
- Must be able to commit to work 5 quarters with OTP (Spring, 2017-the conclusion of Spring 2018)
- Passion for identity development, cultural competence, social justice and allyship
- Serve as a positive role model and resource/referral agent for new students
- Work collaboratively with fellow Network Leads, Orientation & Transition Programs staff (OTP), Network Advisor faculty, other social justice focused student groups, and university staff to promote a strong learning experience
- Team-approach to supporting all networks, fostering intersectionality and inclusion
- Adaptability and creativity in supporting this young program
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Programming / Support Resources / Orientations
- Implement quarterly gatherings for your community
- Collaborate with other student groups to develop co-sponsored programs
- Answer students questions and connect them to campus resources
- Option to serve as leads in Husky Adventures
- Develop programs for and participate in Welcome Week
- Option to serve as a Pack Leader for Husky Leadership Camp
- Answer student questions and connect students to campus resources
- Encourage students to reach out to campus clubs and organizations that may interest them
- Work with the Network Lead team and other student leader groups to help develop relationships amongst incoming students
- Serve as positive role model and resources/referral agent for new students
- Develop programs for A&O sessions and Welcome Week Events
- Represent UW Bothell well and help new students feel welcomed
- Facilitate small group interaction
- Promote Husky spirit with a positive outlook
- Contribute to the branding and promotion of Networks as a program
- Assist in other areas as needed, such as check-ins, lunch or dinner set-up, etc.
Time Commitments
Spring Quarter 2018 / Summer Quarter 2018 / Autumn, Winter & Spring Quarter 2018-2019
Weekly Training Meetings
- Participate in trainings on social justice and Network specific topics
- 1 on 1 with Network Coordinator (30 minutesBi-Weekly)
- Participate in OTP and Network conversations and planning
- Practicum Course: Required to fulfill Network Lead role
- Variable credit course (1-3 credits)
- Develop Network welcome content
- 25 Hour Week
- Phone & Email Communication with new students prior to attending A&O
- Welcome new students at 6 sessions
- Welcome new students at 14 sessions
- Facilitate connections between students and their mentors
- Provide welcome reception to new students in their first week each quarter
- Welcome new students at 6 Sessions
- Attend weekly 30 minute Network Leads meeting
- 1 on 1 with Network Coordinator or OTP Staff (30 minutes Bi-Weekly)
- Build programs to connect students with their identify community on campus and resources
- Welcome new students at 2 sessions
Compensation & Employee Benefits
- Leadership experience, Social Justice training, Intergroup dialogue facilitation skills
- $15.45 hourly
- Earn 1-3 Academic Credits: B CUSP 203A
- Apparel provided to be worn during Orientation and Transition Programs events
