Music is a very important part of our lives and we can learn a lot of English from listening to songs. In this project you are going to work on songs you like and hopefully, will learn a bit more about the singers and improve your English as well. Enjy!!

STAGE I- WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

Get into pairs.

STAGE II –WHICH SONGS WILL YOU CHOOSE?

Decide together which songs you would like to work on. You must choose TWO songs. They must be by two different singers/groups. As soon as you know, tell me.

No two groups can choose the same songs nor the same singers.

STAGE III –– WHERE WILL YOU FIND THE INFORMATION?

In order to complete the writing tasks you will need to research your songs. You must have Two sources – one in ENGLISH and one in HEBREW.(see pg.4 for sites).

WRITING IYou will complete a form for each of your singers/groups.(see A – pg.3)

WRITINGII Write up a time-line of your group/singer from the time they began singing. (see B-pg.3)

WRITING III(see C- pg. 3)

What is the singer/group trying to tell us in the song? Choose one of your songs and write what you think the message is.

WRITING IV - (see D-pg.3)

Choose your 4 favorite lines of the song and write why you like them so much.

VOCABULARY & DICTIONARY

Find ten new words in each song. Write them down and translate them into Hebrew. What part of speech is each word? Write a definition for each word.

CLASSROOM WORK & THE PROCESS – part of your grade will be based on the work you do in class and how you do it. Coming prepared to every lesson is very important. Therefore, you should bring a dictionary to each lesson and all the work in your project file.

PROJECT FILE

Each of you will have a project file and you will keep all the material for the project in it. Make a copy of the songs that you wish to work with. Each of you must have your own copies of the songs in your file. You must keep copies of all your sources. You must bring all of this to every lesson until the project is completed.

STAGE IV – ORAL PRESENTATION

Each couple will present their work to the rest of the class. You may choose one of the following to do. Each of you must speak. Make sure you know about your subject as I will ask questions.

+ Role Play

You are a reporter and your group/singer is coming to Israel for a visit. You will write up an interview with 10 questions and answers. Your questions have to be interesting.Do the interview in front of the class.

+ Prepare a flyer that will advertise the concert your group/singer is taking part in. It should be long enough to give all the information, but not too long. You will talk about what you have learned about your singer/group from the research that you did and show your flyer to the class.

+ Make a new disc cover for one of the groups'/singer's discs. You will explain to the class why you decided to make a new cover. You will also discuss what you learned about the singer/group.

+ Make a t-shirt that you would like your singer to wear during the concert. Explain why you made this t-shirt, how it reflects the singer/group's personality from what you learned.

+ Make a collage of your singer/group. Explain to the class why you chose the different pictures for your collage and about the group/singer.

+ Compare your two songs – in a chart form – put it on a poster and present it to the class. You can compare the beat / the words / the styles/the singers.

+ Make up a survey with questions about your group/singer and ask at least 10 students to complete it. Write up your findings and put them on a poster. You will explain your questions and findings to the class.

GRADING: You will be graded for your writing and for your oral presentation according to rubrics - see pg. 6-7
