Task Overview

The following assessment task is part of your assessment for VCE VET Music Industry (Technical Production). You will be observed as a professional sound engineer mixing a live music event and a studio mixing session. A work performance checklist will be completed by your assessor on each occasion. It is essential that each mixing task allows you to fully demonstrate the competency standards. There must be a variety of sound sources so that you are able to show the correct and effective use of the sound mixing console. This includes equalization, and the use signal processing.

Part 2

You are also required to complete an oral or written test on the underpinning knowledge in the units. This part of the task will consist of questions in the following areas:

·  Knowledge of the functions/operations of a range of sound mixing consoles

·  Connecting signal processors and other outboard devices.

·  Signal flow

·  Input signals and gain structure

·  Spatial imaging

·  Occupational health and safety

The time allowed for assessment of work performance is 90 mins
