Place of work:42 Clerkenwell Close, EC1R 0AZ

Placement:25 hours per weekspread over at least 3.5 days

Maternity cover until January 2014 with the possibility of extension

Salary:£25 266pro rata based on a 36 hour week

About the job

The Professional Development Assistant provides support for the Museums Association’s professional development programmes. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong administrative and organisational skills to join our team.

Working for the Museums Association will provide an excellent chance to gain a national perspective on museum issues; and there will be development opportunities for someone with an interest in professional development and/orthe museum sector.

Key Activities

  • First point of contact for Professional Development enquiries
  • Input and update of applicant and mentor information on Professional Development systems, and processing registration of applicants
  • Collating and despatching information to individuals involved in Professional Development schemes
  • Contacting applicants by telephone, letter and e-mail
  • Filing and photocopying for Professional Development team
  • Answering enquiries and booking in applicants/mentors for professional reviews/training events
  • Organising catering and venues for meetings and events

Person Specification

Essential qualities

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent customer care instincts
  • Experience of using MS Office (including Excel)
  • Ability to plan and manage workload
  • Friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to sustain work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to respect confidential information

Desirable qualities

  • Understanding of continuing professional development
  • Experience of representing an organisation (giving presentations, training etc.)
  • Excellent keyboard accuracy and reasonable speed
  • Experience of using databases
  • Ability to travel and occasionally stay overnight within the UK
  • Interest in the museums sector
