Muscular Fitness Journal Entries

·  How can regular participation in muscular strength and endurance programs help you achieve higher levels of overall fitness? How can participation in this type of fitness activity help your sport related fitness?

·  What changes have you witnessed in your fitness levels during middle school? What has contributed to these changes?

·  What problems do you encounter in dedicating time to exercise or personal health? How can you overcome these problems?

·  Choose two famous athletes – one who is admired for his or her positive behavior and one who is known for his or her negative behavior. Compare and contrast the images portrayed by these athletes and discuss ways this behavior can impact students your age.

·  Discuss ways you can include higher or lower skilled players in activities that you have been participating in while making everyone feel like they are contributing to the group.

·  Administer three of the FINTESSGRAM assessments to a parent or guardian. Describe their difficulties or successes. Were you surprised by their participation?

·  Find a popular sport from another culture. Describe this sport and discuss why it is popular in that region.

·  Watch a sport that is being taught in class (at the high school, on TV, etc.) Describe the physical differences, skill differences, and strategy differences among the players. How can you learn from watching others participate in a sport?

·  Discuss specific opportunities for women in sport. Do you feel women have as many opportunities to be physically active as men? Why or why not?

·  Take a skill being taught in class (throwing a football, shooting a lay-up, etc.) and teach it to a younger sibling or a younger friend. Describe how they performed this skill at the beginning of instruction. What steps did you take to help them get better?

·  Have you ever worked hard to achieve a sport-specific goal? What steps did you take for improvement? How was this improvement measured? Why was this goal important to you?
