MURRAY EDWARDS COLLEGE MCR TRAVEL GRANTS POLICY 2010/11

Each academic year the MCR Committee offers small Travel Grants for research purposes, intended to help with accommodation and/or travel costs. All members of the MCR are entitled to apply for one grant per year, irrespective of the level of expense incurred, and awards are made on the basis of greatest need. Applications for Travel Grants can be made for travel that has already occurred or is still to occur.

The award levels are capped at maximum levels by location as follows:

For travel within the UK: £50

For travel within Europe: £75

For travel outside Europe: £100

Each claim must be made on the application form attached, and supported by a letter from your Supervisor (most graduate students), Director of Studies (mature

undergraduates) or College Tutor (graduate students without departmental/faculty supervisors). A letter of confirmation for conferences or a letter from your DOS or supervisor for field work is also required.

Please return your completed application to the MCR Treasurer’s pigeonhole (Karishma Patel, pigeonhole number 28) by Monday 18th May 2015.

Alternatively, submit your application online by sending an email containing all relevant documents to the MCR Vice President () AND the MCR Treasurer (). The letter of support has to be send to the MCR Vice President and MCR Treasurer directly by your Supervisor/Tutor/DOS.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by the end of Full Easter Term at the latest.

Grant Assessment Criteria:

(1) Extent to which the trip is essential to the course of study;

(2) Costs incurred and shortfall from other funding sources;

(3) If a conference, whether or not the student is actively presenting their work;

(Please note that some claims for trips may be scaled down by an amount to ensure we can support the largest number of applicants.)
