Title:Mummies, Science & Egyptology

Date:Saturday 16 April 2011

Tutors:Dr Roger Forshaw & Joyce Tyldesley

Venue:Norcroft Centre, Tumbling Hill Street, Bradford

The ancient Egyptian civilisation was one of the world’s first great cultural awakenings.Today it stirs the popularimagination and holds an enduring fascination for many people. This study day explains how modern scientific investigations and archaeological research are helping to reveal more about the lives of the inhabitants of the Nile Valley. We examine not only the life and times of some ordinary ancient Egyptians, but demonstrate how the latest scientific techniques and research into their mummified remains can be utilised to give a better understanding of the society they lived in and reach across time to make a connection with these ancient peoples.
