Multimedia Project:Greek Mythology and Archetypes
- Log on to your computer and click on the Internet Explorer/Google Chrome icon. Go to:
- Click on “Begin.”
- This is an interactive family tree of Greek Mythology. You will navigate and learn about how all of the characters are connected.
- Take a minute to click through a few different sections (remember you can always go back to “Home” which is “Chaos.” Notice that at the bottom of the screen there is an information blurb about the character you selected. If you click “more,” it will take you to a more specific information page. This can be valuable information later on.
- Now from “Chaos” click on “Gaea” which is earth. She and “Ouranos” (which is sky) were the “mother and father.”
- This means most of the gods and goddess you will be selecting will be found when opening “Ouranus.”
- After navigating around a bit on the family tree, select a Greek god or goddess from the table below:
Possible Gods and Goddesses
- Cronos (sometimes spelled Kronos)
- Athena (sometimes spelled Athene)
- Hera
- Demeter
- Poseidon
- Hades
- Apollo
- Artemis
- Ares
- Dionysis
- Aphrodite
- Hermes
- Hephaestus
- Uranus (sometimes spelled Ouranos)
- After I have checked your progress and approved your character, you may move on to Phase II of the project.
- Using the god/goddess you chose above, access at least six resources online
to gainmore information about your hero to be used in your multimedia
presentation. Three must be from a database, and the other three can be from
various credible resources online (see some suggested sites from Mrs. Webb below.
- Suggested items to research:
- How was god/goddess born/created?
- Greek tributes to your god/goddess
- God/goddess who is associated with an actual Greek city
- Family members and relationships
- Interesting trivia
- For what things is your god/goddess responsible or associated? (ex: the harvest, seasons, earthquakes, the Underworld, horses)
- Notable archetypes that show up in your research for your character
- Notable children (demi-gods or gods/goddesses)
- One myth that contains your character (this can be presented in several slides)
- Databases to consult (avoid initially going to a search engine like Google); type the word “media” into the url bar; select “High” for high school databases:
- Galileo
- GalePowerSearch
- Biography In Context
- Britannica Image Quest (for images/photos to use in your Prezi)
- You need to use EasyBib.com and create at least 8 virtual notecards (with citations) from at least three different sources AND a works cited page.
- You should have created an account when we worked with Mrs. Gordon, so use it!
- Most of the sources will be via the media databases that you were shown in the media center.
- You WILL be getting a grade for these (and printing out copy of your works cited page you created)!
- You will multimedia options below as the format of your project that you will turn in for a grade:
- Prezi
- Select “Sign Up Now”; then select “Public” and “Start Now”; fill in registration and begin
- View my sample Prezi that I did with Edward Cullen as a hero from Twilight
- Your presentation should include:
- Features on:
- How was god/goddess born/created?
- Family members
- For what things is your god/goddess responsible or associated? (ex: the harvest, seasons, earthquakes, the Underworld, horses)
- Notable archetypes that show up in your research for your character
- Notable children (demi-gods or gods/goddesses)
- One myth that contains your character (this can be presented in several slides)
- At least eight pictures/graphics/clipart (you can always do more!)
- These need to be Creative Commons or Public Domain
- Any images you choose to insert from Prezi are automatically commercially licensed and you can use.
- At least one of the following (you can do both for extra credit):
- A link to external site to link from your presentation to outside site.
- This means find a website that would help explain or show an aspect of your hero
- An mp3 audio file (song, voice) or mp4media file (video)
- These must also be Creative Commons or Public Domain to avoid copyright issues.
- On Youtube you can simply add “creative commons” after the search title
-Ex: “Zeus, creative commons”
3. Reminder that you may not have access to Youtube or audio platforms at school; thus, you may need to get these resources from home.
When you are finished with your project, copy the link of your project and email it to me for me to grade.
