Multi-Genre Project
(100 points)
For this project, a “genre” means a type of writing. For example, a newspaper article, a recipe, a letter, and a song are all genres. This project is an opportunity for you to explore several genres of writing to teach your classmates about a particular interest of yours.
The topic of your project should reflect your own interests, experiences, and personality; it can be anything! (school appropriate of course) You will have time to work on this project in class; however, the completion of the project is your responsibility, regardless of how you use in-class time.
The final product will include:
Cover – includes title, author, graphics
Table of Contents – each entry should include the title, type of genre (except for About the Author and Dear Reader), and the page number
Dear Reader Letter(double-spaced) – this letter is addressed to your audience, and it provides an overview of the contents of your Zine, as well as an explanation of why you chose this topic.
About the Author(double-spaced) – gives biographical information
Three original texts of different genres that explore the selected topic. Here is a list of possible genres:
- newspaper article, postcards (at least 3), letter, song lyrics, step-by-step instructions (in complete sentences), poem (number of poems depends on the type – see your teacher), and a comic strip with text/dialogue.
- If you have a type of genre that you would like to try, you MUST get it approved by a teacher first!
