Accuplacer Instructions for Students

(Remind the students not to touch the computer until instructed to do so.)

The purpose of the ACCUPLACER Placement Test is to assess your current skills in Reading, English, and Math and/or to determine your eligibility for dual enrollment course(s).

Accuplacer is a computer-based test featuring no time limit and immediate scoring. You will have three to four test sections:

·  Two English sections:

o  Reading Comprehension – 20 questions

o  Sentence Skills – 20 questions

·  One to Two Mathematic section(s)– Math test depends upon a student’s math experience

o  Arithmetic - 17 questions

o  Elementary Algebra - 12 questions

o  College Level Math - 20 questions

(Do not worry if others finish before you because they may have not been given as many sections as you.)

Note: Your initial background questions will determent what math section you start off with. You will be asked if you have taken an Algebra class before and received a C or better. By answering “yes” to this question you will start with the Algebra section.

General Instructions:

·  The test has NO TIME LIMIT

·  No talking to other testers during the exam.

·  All cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off.

·  All personal items must be put away. The only items allowed during testing are scratch paper and pencils.

·  No personal calculators are permitted during testing (However, during the Math test a small calculator icon may appear. When it appears you may click on this icon to use the calculator, if desired.)

·  When you finish your test, raise your hand and a proctor will show you your test results.

Take your time…good Luck!

Notes:

Students testing April-June should answer the back ground questions as if they have completed the year, so if they are currently in Algebra II and they are receiving a C or better they would consider this course as being completed.

Prospective Dual/Concurrent enrollment students should answer no to the Financial Aid question, and 6 or fewer units on the question asking about units they will be taking.
