MY MATHLAB SITE: Go to Click the “Register” button and follow the directions there. Your New Course ID number is reed07802. Once registered,click on the course Algebra for Calculus 15 week SPRING 2009. If needed, click on MyMathLab Installation Wizard to download plug-in MathXL Player (only).

CALCULATOR: You need a graphing calculator for class activities and homework assignments. I will be using a TI*83 plus or TI*84

plus for in-class demonstrations and suggest you purchase one of these if you do not currently own a graphing calculator. A TI*82 is acceptable as well. Please bring the calculator to class every day.

HOMEWORK: I assign homework DAILY and expect you to work NEATLY IN PENCIL. Schedule about 1½

hours daily to complete assignments and readings. I will collect and grade homework randomly 10 times during the semester; each collected assignment is worth 5 points. If you hand in your assignment late, you can earn at most 3 points for that assignment. I will not accept late homework at all from a given chapter once you have had the exam on that chapter.

MY MATH LAB ASSIGNMENTS:You willhave acomputer lab PRACTICE TEST due every Sunday night by midnight. You mayredo these practice tests as often asnecessary to reach a passingscore (23 out of 25 correct). Once you earn a passing score, you’ll receive 5points. If you score 20-22 correct, you will earn 4 points. If you score below 20, you will receive no points for the assignment.

QUIZZES: You will have a quiz every Friday and some Wednesdays, except if an exam is scheduled that day. You need to be present the

entire class period inorder to earn your points for any in-class quiz. Some of the quizzes may be group quizzes.

FINAL EXAM: The final exam is a block final, which means all algebra for calculus classes take it at the same time.

MAKE-UP EXAMS: Given only under extraordinary circumstances with written verification of a university-

accepted excuse (documented illness, death in immediate family, university-sponsored event). Please notify

me IN ADVANCE, if possible, if an exam is to be missed.

In order to continue on to MATH 11012 (Intuitive Calculus) or MATH 12002 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus I), you need to earn a grade of C or better in this course.
