Basic Overview of Position –Why does this job exist? / The Data Asset Product Manager is responsible for the management and data/product execution throughout the Data Asset lifecycle cycle from strategic planning, thru tactical activities to data delivery. Responsible for the ownership of the data quality product to include data values, logic, algorithms, tables, and processes. Responsible for data/product documentation, communication and working closely with business owners and sales to ensure the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals.
The Data Product Manager is responsible for managing staff’s workload, quality of work, productivity, and process efficiency. Work in conjunction with both the Data Compilation Manager and Collection Manager to ensure data delivered to the products and end cost result meets acceptable thresholds identified in the Quality Control Plan (QCP). Manage data anomalies and produce variance reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities –What do the BEST people do in this role? / Ownership and Management of the assigned suite of products.
Define the data product strategy and roadmap.
Work with assigned Business Unit to strategize for data augmentation and future data requirements.
Manage staff workload and data quality.
Produce weekly reports of work load, staff resources and efficiency benchmarking.
Create and set up processes that will generate reports for ongoing Quality Assurance of product data in alignment with the Data Asset Quality Control Plan (QCP). These reports will show changes, variances, deviations in data and other anomalies.
Maintain ongoing validation process of Data Asset product estimates.
Manage and maintain all external/internal communications for Products (White Papers, position papers, product bulletins, etc.).
Work with Account Managers, Product Managers, and Sales for client support which may include client visits and presentations.
Attend Account Manager and Product meetings on a regular basis.
Work with Product Managers and Account Managers on data issues, RFIs, client inquiries, external communications as required.
Partner with in-house Construction/Building Industry Specialists on special research, building code changes.
Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
Act as a leader within the company.
Supervisory Duties (if applicable) / This position has direct supervisory responsibilities; direct reports may be located in one or more MSB office locations.

Education and Work Experience / Previous proven success as a data product manager with experience in a data/research capacity. Likely acquired with approximately five years experience in the field.
A proven leader, this individual will have had successful experience in a management/supervisory capacity of data professionals.
Proven success in project management, managing a team and ensuring deadlines/client deliverables are consistently met and communicated.
Proven knowledge of/experience in the construction industry (or construction-related field for Residential, Commercial, Claims, and/or Real Estate/Government Appraisal background)
Bachelor's degree required (preferred: Construction Management, Computer Science, Engineering or Architectural degree)
Extensive knowledge of MSB data structure and process flow may be substituted for education and work experience.
Professional certification in the data product area of expertise not required but beneficial.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills (including certifications, licenses, equipment, applications, other technology, etc.) / Office: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good clerical and organizational skills. Excellent presentation skills.
Technical Skills: Proficient in database programs such as SQL, Access and Data warehousing concepts such as Data marts and OLAP cubes. Exceptional spreadsheet skills a must.
Statistical: Good analytical skills with econometric forecasting skills. Ability to look at and review data from both high levels to detailed view.
General: Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority. Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products. Excellent teamwork skills
PCs, Word, Excel, Access, SQL, Data Warehousing.
Work Environment and Physical Demands / General office environment.

  • Manage timely and accurate delivery of existing products as already defined in MSB Data Asset product delivery calendar.
  • Specifically oversee completion of MVP project including defined project milestones with ultimate completion date of February 2013.
  • Represent Data Asset as lead in developing and execution strategy to move data into new SQL databases. Meet all defined project milestones; project in early scope phase and anticipated to kick-off year-end 2012
  • Create models for PPI warehousing project, pending contract confirmation. Project to begin October 2012 with due date of December 31, 2012.
