Mrs. Shelly’s Fifth Grade Math Class

Welcome to Mrs. Shelly’s Math class, I am so excited to have you! Here is some quick information on how we will operate things in our classroom this year. Please be aware that this is a general outline and sometimes during the school year things may change to benefit our classroom environment. I will always notify students and parents of changes before they are made.

Expectations--I have a few expectations of my students in order for us to have a successful school year!

-Be respectful of people and belongings in our classroom.

-Be prepared with all materials at the start of class.

-Follow directions the first time they are asked.

-Stay on task during our class time.

Each time a student does not follow the expectationsafter a verbal warning, a mark will be placed by their name on their class roster. (Refer to Behavior for marks on roster)

Grading--During the school year each nine weeks will consist of 9 daily grades and 4 major test grades. They will each be worth 50% of your student’s average.

All grades below a 70 may be corrected for up to a 70. Failing assignments (tests and daily) must be signed by a parent/guardian, corrected on separate paper and returned within the week to earn credit. Students may only correct the assignment one time. Students may only earn a 70 on corrected work.

Test Corrections—Students may correct mistakes on a Test to earn up to a 70. Corrections will only be accepted on separate paper, showing all work, and within two school days of the returned test.

Late Work--Assignments that are late, with no excuse, will be 5 points off each day that the assignment is not turned in. Students who are absent with an excuse will have an extended due date assigned by the teacher. Late assignments with no excused absence will not be accepted after five school days.

Extra Credit--Extra credit will be offered periodically throughout the year. Students may not use extra credit to replace an assignment. Extra credit points will be added to a specific assignment for the selected 9 weeks. Extra credit will not be allowed to be turned in late or incomplete. Extra credit may be in the form of: extra problems, extended projects, essays, etc. I will give students notice ahead of time for the extra credit opportunities.

Missing Work--It is crucial to student success that they are in class and participating each day. However if a student is absent there are options to complete work at home or with teacher assistance. It is the student’s responsibility to collect missing work from the folder in the classroom. The due date for work will be determined by the teacher. Students may use recess or tutorial time to complete work with the teacher’s assistance.

Conduct/Behavior—Please refer to the attached “Fifth Grade Discipline Plan”

Class Tickets--Students will earn a chance to receive tickets to be placed into a drawing for our class on Fridays. Students have the option of entering their tickets into a treat drawing, or a pass drawing. Students will either receive a treat from the prize box, or a homework/late pass if their name is drawn.

Each 9 weeks there will be a gift card drawing that students will be allowed to enter their tickets as well.

Behavior that earns tickets includes; on-task, participation, being prepared for class, following directions the first time, etc.

I have received and read Mrs. Shelly’s Math class outline and the Fifth Grade Discipline Plan. I understand the guidelines, expectations and consequenceslisted and I will do my best to follow them throughout the school year.
