Novel ZINE

ANNUAL PROJECT: Students will create a magazine which exhibits knowledge of writing skills and genres as well as thorough comprehension of the novel, Wonder. All assignments listed below are to be completed and neatly bound together to form a small magazine. Students must include an illustrated front and back cover as well as a table of contents. All assignments are to be typed in google docs. You may send your documents to me for printing when you have completed assignments. I will bind all zine assignments using my binding machine. The final product must resemble a magazine.

ALL Assignments for Zine are due on Dec. 8, 2017.

Assignment 1: Author’s Biography - Gather information about the life of R.J. Palacio, author of Wonder, and take some notes on the author's life and career. Organize notes and type a two-page Biography spread which includes a balance of both text and images.

Assignment 2: Poetry – Create a Name Poem using any one of the characters from Wonder. Include first name and last name on two separate pages. Make sure the name is typed in larger text than the other words or phrases. Include images that reflect what it said in the poem about the character.

Assignment 3: Poetry -- Compose a Sonnet which follows the correct rhyme scheme and structure summarizing the major events in Wonder. Sonnet should tell the story from beginning to end in poetry form.

Assignment 4: Informational Writing - Create a Double-Bubble in whichyou compare and contrast the main character, Auggie, and any secondary character from Wonder. Then, write a four paragraph essay using the similarities and differences identified on the double-bubble.

Assignment 5: Literary Thematic Writing - Theme is the big concept of your story: love, honor, justice, betrayal, loyalty, family, courage, duty.

Pick a theme that manifestsin Wonder. Write an essay explaining the significance of the theme in the novel. Use details from the novels to support your explanation.

Assignment 6: Literary Fiction Writing – Imagine you have been assigned by the principal toassist Auggieon his first dayat OJHS. What is your day like?What is yourinteraction with Auggie the first week of school?Write about the first time you meet Auggie in a250 words essay.

Assignment 7: Literary Writing --Compose an additional chapter in Auggie's point of view in which you share the details of his summer. Chapter should be 250 words in length and include images as well.

Assignment 8: Character Evaluation - Make a web or map with illustrations of each major character in the novel. Explain the importance of the character in the novel and how the characters are linked together.

Assignment 9: Zine Table of Contents – Create a table of contents that outlines the order of the pages in the magazine.

Assignment 10: Zine Covers – Create covers that are visually appealing for the front and back of the Zine.
