Mrs. Pecher’s “Need to Know Info”
Backpack: Your child’s backpack should come to and from school each day. This item serves as a keeper of folders, lunch boxes, and all things important! Please be sure to check your child’s backpack each evening. It would also be wonderful if you sent me a “special signal” as you place a notes or items inside for me to check the next day. Please tie a yellow ribbon or newspaper sleeve to the top of your child’s backpack and I will make sure that I receive your important message.
Birthdays: Birthday celebrations are a special time for children…especially Kindergarteners! If your child would like to celebrate with a treat please be sure that it is store bought. Treats that are individually packaged work best. Please avoid sheet cakes or cookie cakes that need adult preparation before serving. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate towards the end of the school year with an “Unbirthday” celebration. If your child would like to bring in a treat please keep me posted on the date. We currently have 17 children in our class.
Change of Dismissal Plans: If your child is going home a different way, please send in a written note on that day to let me know. If something comes up during the school day please call the office (314-415-6800) and Mrs. Karins or Mrs. Ellis will pass along the important information. Thank you for ensuring your child’s safety by following these procedures!
Keeping in Contact: I look forward working with you and your child this school year. If you have a question regarding anything at all, please give me a call or send me an email. Please know that I will check my messages each evening. The children keep me very busy during the school day!
Lunch: Your child is working diligently to learn his/her pin number as lunch is bought at school. There are a variety of supportive adults who aid Kindergarten children as they need assistance in the cafeteria. We eat lunch from 11:05-11:25 each day.
Parent Volunteers: We will have a variety of opportunities for parents to help in our classroom this year. Please sign up for field trips, to help in the classroom, to help after school hours, to be a party chaperones, or for PTO events. At Curriculum Night on August 30th a sign up will be made available. If you are unable to make it to this event, contact me and we will get you signed up to volunteer.
Relax and Refuel: During this time the children will have an opportunity to listen to books as they are read aloud, relax, rest if needed, or work independently in a quiet environment. Please send a favorite (but small) towel or blanket. The cozy blanket or towel should be able to fit easily in your child’s backpack.
Shoes: I love my flip flops as much as some of our fashionable Kindergarten children! While flip flops are fun, they can become troublesome on the playground and especially during P.E. class. Please be sure to send your child wearing tennis shoes on days when our class as P.E. Check the “Specials Schedule” to be safe!
Snack: Please provide a healthy mid-morning snack for your child each day. Due to our early start time we will eat snack at 9:15am to tide us over until lunch. Snacks such as fruit, pretzels, crackers, or granola bars work wonders! We have drinking fountains in our room so water bottles are not necessary.
Temperature: Our classroom and outdoor temperatures tend to fluctuate frequently! You may consider sending an extra sweater or sweatshirt for your child to keep in his/her backpack. Please be sure to label this extra item with your child’s first name.
