Position:FACILITIES & SAFETY ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR

Department:Head Start

Supervisor:Facilities & Safety Manager

Responsibilities: To perform repairs, preventative maintenance and installations to assure that all facilities are safe, comfortable and in efficient operating condition; must understand how to operate heating (boilers) and cooling systems throughout the agency; assists in the supervision of custodial staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in maintaining all agency buildings to ensure that all sites are safe and ready for

inspections on a continuing basis;

  • Assists in ensuring operation and maintenance of heating and cooling systems for all sites;
  • Assists in ensuring that all facilities meet the necessary health and safety standards/requirements;
  • Operates and maintains building heating systems;
  • Completes major and minor repairs/replacements as necessary to maintain continuous operations for all agency buildings as instructed;
  • Requisitions and orders cleaning materials as necessary;
  • Works within goals, policies and activities designed to meet performance standards and other program mandates;
  • Handles sensitive inter-office correspondence;
  • Works assigned shifts and hours as needed;
  • Abides by applicable Agency rules and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all employees and visitors that have access of building(s);
  • Directs and supervises custodial staff in the day-to-day cleaning of buildings;
  • Completes and submits all reports assigned by supervisor;
  • Other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

Qualifications: A High School diploma or GED required. Must have considerable knowledge of building operations, building maintenance, repairs and/or extensive knowledge of at least one specialized building trade, experienced in electrical operations and maintenance, heating and cooling systems and associated building systems. License or certification with experience in one or more of the following fields: plumbing, electronics, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration preferred. Must meet all requirements of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services Day Care regulations. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable under agency carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to relate to low-income community and pre-school children. Possess a clear understanding of the janitorial needs of each facility and know how to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Ability to give written and verbal directives. Ability to supervise custodial staff and ensure the timely completion of job functions on a daily basis.
