Mrs. Lanigan and Mr. Hedges
Welcome to a Great Year!!
We are excited to have you all in our classes this year. Mrs. Lanigan will spend part of each day with you while you work on becoming excellent readers. Mr. Hedges will spend the other part of the day with you expanding your knowledge of Math and Science.
SRI
The SRI is a reading inventory test given at the beginning , middle and end of each school starting in 3rd grade. Each student is expected to achieve a score of 500 or greater on the end of the year test in order to reach grade level. We will send home the beginning scores after the first test on August 10th.
IREAD
This year, students will be taking the IREAD test at the end of the year. This is a reading test that assesses each student’s comprehension and phonics skills. The IREAD must be passed for your child to go on to 4th grade.
ISTEP
This year will be the first year each student takes the ISTEP test. There will be reading, writing and math portion of this test. The students will be working hard all year towards the goal of passing each section of the ISTEP. Please make sure that your child reads aloud and to her/himself every
night! This is so important, it makes a big difference in how much your child will achieve this year.
Homework
Beginning next week, students will have homework every night Monday-Thursday. If a student has missing assignments, students will be expected to complete them. Please check your child’s agenda each night. After the assignments are completed, please sign or initial your child’s agenda.
Also, check for any notes about behavior. I will add a star indicating a great day, or a number indicating any problem areas the student will correct for the following day. A copy of the Class Rules and numbers is taped in the front of the planner.
Progress Reports
Students will receive a progress report every other Friday informing you of current grades, missing grades , and behavior. Please sign and return the report on the following Monday.
*Students with a Grade of 70% or lower, D or F on their 9 week report card will be required to attend a conference with a parent and the teacher to talk about ways to improve.
Behavior
In our classroom we will use Class Dojo .It is an online behavior system that rewards students with positive behavior with points. At the end of the day I will let students know how they are doing on points. At the end of the week students who have enough points will join Lunch Bunch in the Classroom as a reward.
Please check your student planner daily for assigned homework and also any behavior indicators for the day. Star or numbers.
***Parents are asked to sign the planner every night.

No toys are permitted at school or in student backpacks. Please leave toys at home.
A Teacher suggestion…..
Homework station- It is helpful for students to have a place at home that is designated for homework. This quiet area should have plenty of space for them to work and the materials they need. A basket that contains the following items will be helpful:
Sharpened pencils ,erasers, scissors, markers, crayons, ruler, inches and centimeters, lined paper this basket should be only for homework use , that way students feel responsible and organized.
If you have any questions regarding the homework expections,do not hesitate to contact me .
Please join use for the Back to School Night, August 20 at 6:30 where a detailed description of these expectations will be reviewed.
Volunteer Hours
Remember parents are required to volunteer for at least 5 hours this year in our building. Please fill out the forms for background check and volunteer activities. Your attendance at parent nights will be counted as volunteer time. I will have sign in sheets available.
Please feel free to contact me anytime at school between , 8-4.(226-4257)
