September 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello! My name is Maria Kleva, and I will be your child’s math teacher this year. Before the year gets started, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and open the lines of communication. I am dedicated to making this a busy and productive year for all of my students. One way to do this effectively is to communicate often. Parental support is so important to a successful education and by keeping in touch, we will achieve this!

Attached you will find my classroom and discipline policies. I encourage you to review these policies along with your child so that we are all on the same page.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. You can reach me by email at . I am looking forward to meeting all of you at Back-to-School Night!

Sincerely,

Maria Kleva

*I may check your Math binder periodically to ensure that it is organized and up-to-date. You may have a notebook quiz at any time, so be sure to get notes from a classmate if you are absent.

PROCEDURES

1.  Math Book MUST be in your math binder at all times. You may not write in your math book at all. Books will be collected at the end of each unit.

2.  At the beginning of every class, each student must write down the date and name of the day’s lesson on a new sheet of notebook paper.

3.  EACH STUDENT is responsible to be a cooperative/contributing group member. Every student must write down all the group work. Characteristics of a good group member include: sharing ideas, communicating, listening, dividing responsibilities, and supporting each other. Class participation is a key component of this program; you will be graded on a 3 – point scale.

4.  Homework is expected every night. Homework will be checked and will be worth 3 points each. Each assignment must be labeled in your notebook by date, page number, and problem numbers. When we go over the homework answers in class, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure he/she writes down the correct answers.

5.  Grading Policy is based on a point system. To calculate your marking period average at any time, divide your Total Earned Points by the Total Possible Points.

6.  When you are absent, you MUST make sure to get notes from a group member during school hours. You are responsible for ALL class-work and homework that you miss.

7.  Extra Help is available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school in Room 112.

I have read the above and agree to follow the stated rules and procedures.
