Mrs. Frydenlund’s Kindergarten—Room 21

Week of November 30, 2009

Dear Parents,

What an exciting week we had! Our school was taped for “School Shout Out” with Charlie Shortino on Channel 15. The kids are so excited to see themselves on TV! Watch for us to shout out “Good Morning, Cottage Grove!” on December 16th around 6:45 am. The 4K class and 1st graders will also shout out on December 8th and December 11th. We are real live TV stars!

Ashantaya was our Super Kid this week! We learned a lot about Taya’s favorite color of red and her favorite food of pizza! Did you know that Taya wants to be a mom with 10 kids when she grows up?

In reading this week, we continued a unit on transportation and things that go. We read a story called On the Go. Our new word for the week is GO and the letter and letter sound we focused on was I. We learned that I is a vowel and has 2 sounds. We compared and contrasted many versions of the Gingerbread Man story, reading the Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Kid and Gingerbread Baby. We focused on the –an family of words. Our poem of the week was called Gingerbread and it focuses on the word, LIKE. We practiced counting pennies and using the cents sign. We practiced plotting points on a grid, skip counting, and reviewed symmetry. We also measured objects using non-standard measurement.

Reminders for next week:

  • Melina is our next Super Kid!
  • Please continue to send your child’s take home folder back and forth each day!
  • Our word for the month of DECEMBER is RESPONSIBILITY!
  • PTO Holiday Festival is Saturday, December 5th at Cottage Grove School!
  • WAY OUT WEDNESDAY IS NEXT WEEK WITH SWEATSUIT DAY!
  • As part of our holiday party, we will be having a book exchange. The kids should bring a wrapped book to school (no more than $4.00) no later than December 17th. Please make sure the book is suitable for a boy or a girl and not a work book or coloring book. If this causes a financial hardship for your family, please let me know and we can work something out.
  • If you signed up to help with supplies or volunteering your time for the holiday party, our room parent will be calling you in the upcoming weeks. Our holiday party is from 9:15-11:00am on Monday, December 21st.
