MROVCP AND MROCP PRE COURSE NOTES

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. MROVCP - Marine Radio Operator VHF Certificate of Proficiency

The examination currently consists of 25 Multi-Choice questions and is a closed book examination with a pass mark of 70%.

2. MROCP - Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency

The examination currently consists of 50 Multi-Choice questions and is a closed book examination with a pass mark of 70%.

SUGGESTED PREPARATION

3. Prior to attending on the day of the course and examination, it is recommended that candidates work through the relevant handbook (should have been acquired when registering for the course and examination) thoroughly.

4. Revision questions are available on-line at the site links given below. We recommend you work through these at least 3 times (preferably until you can comfortably achieve 90% or better) prior to attending the course.

AREAS OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE

5. The following are of particular importance:

a.  DISTRESS is a MAYDAY situation meaning there is grave or imminent danger person/s or ships.

b.  URGENCY is a PAN PAN situation and concerns the safety of a person, ship or aircraft.

c.  SAFETY is a SECURITÉ situation and involves navigational warnings for mariners.

6. Become familiar with:

a.  What to do if you hear the call – MAYDAY, and

b.  How and When to effect a MAYDAY RELAY

ATTENDING THE COURSE/EXAMINATION

7. An Australian Maritime College examination fee of $80.00 is payable at VMR Hervey Bay prior to sitting the examination.

8. When attending for the course and examination candidates should bring with them:

a.  Black or Blue Biro Pen;

b.  HB Pencil and Eraser, and

c.  Passport photo with name clearly printed on the back.
