Note:Funds cannot be used for conference expenses (e.g. travel or registration) but can be used to supplement costs for a PhD training day attached to a conference (e.g. extra night’s accommodation).

Note:The maximum number of courses a student can apply for within one application is two.Applicants applying for more than two training courses within one application need to provide a timeline of their PhD over the next 12 months and to evidence why it is imperative to complete additional training courses in line with the 12-month timeline.

This fund will make awards on the assumption that the faculty supports this request and will extend/approve interruption of studies.

Applications to extend the period pf PhD support, so as to allow Internships and Placements, will not be accepted.

If accepted, this award will cover monthly stipends at the student’s current rate for a maximum of 3 months.

3. PhD to Postdoctoral Transition:

This fund will make a short-term contribution (maximum 3 months) towards the costs incurred in pursuing postdoctoral research opportunities (e.g. to complete essential experiments required by a journal for publication; or to support a short visit to a collaborating research group to complete essential work). This funding cannot be used to extend the PhD and to be eligible the applicant must have submitted their thesis prior to the application.

Note: It is anticipated that PhD to Postdoctoral Transition Funding will be awarded in exceptional cases and all requests will be considered by the Flexible Supplement Panel and the MRC DTP Executive Committee.
