PEEK of the WEEK
Mr. Wilhelmy & Mrs. Jones - Week of 3/11–3/15
**Creative Writing Publication**
Each student in both homerooms has been challenged to produce their best form of creative writing for publication. The idea was originally brought up following a series of exercises with Haiku poetry, but the parameters have been expanded since the original presentation. What I'd like to offer all students on our team is the opportunity to write a poem, story, play, editorial, or essay on a subject of their choice. Each submission will then be organized in a class book and published for the enjoyment of all our students and their families. The guidelines are as follows:
A. Each student's work is limited to one side of a piece of paper.
B. Every entry must be typed and proofread carefully.
C. Each entry must have a title centered at the top of the page. The author's name will be written beneath the title.
D. An illustration can accompany the written piece, as long as it appears on the same page and does not take away from the written work.
E. Those students choosing to write poems can write as many different poems as they can fit onto one side of a piece of paper. Each poem must have a title.
F. All entries are due a week from today - Friday, March 15, 2013.
G. Any other questions should be directed toward Mr. Wilhelmy.
Math
We will be completing our unit on Fractions next week by comparing and ordering fractions as well as relating fractions and decimals. Students should continue to review finding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators as they prepare for our Unit 7A test on Friday, March 15th. We will complete and review the study guide prior to the test.
Science
Students received their Matter 2 study guide early this week. On Monday, students will rotate through a variety of stations where various changes in matter will be displayed. They will be classifying these changes as physical or chemical. We will hold a review day in preparation for our Matter 2 test on Wednesday, March 13th. Students will finish the week by creating drawings of either physical or chemical changes. Their illustrations will be displayed in an interactive bulletin board that will allow other Kensington students to identify the change taking place.
ABOVE AND BEYOND
Congratulations to the following students for completing The Atoms Family Atomic Challenge: Maire K., Grace S., Piper S., Jacob B., Alexis A., Joey B., Sarisha M., Taylor K., and Nicole C.. Each of you did a wonderful job of exploring the Periodic Table and determining the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons for given elements. I am proud of you for extending your learning!
Reading Performances
Congratulations to all students for completing your
3rd quarter Reading Performances. Mr. Wilhelmy and
Mrs. Jones are so proud of your hard work. It has
paid off as we have seen many improvements! We
will have a few weeks off and will begin our final
performances of the year on April 11th.
