2nd March 2010

Dear Member,

Welcome to Season 2010. I hope you enjoyed a happy and safe Christmas, New Year and summer period and are now ready to move again back into the winter months. I am writing to advise of a number of important announcements regarding upcoming events to commence Season 2010.

Below you will find important information about up-coming events and details with respect to training and coaching appointments.

I hope to not only see you, but any other prospective members you may able to bring along to training shortly!

Paul Bidgood

President

At the completion of Season 2009 the TFUA in conjunction with the two northern umpiring associations and AFL Tasmania completed a review of the Tasmanian State League and the way in which umpiring plays it’s part within the TSL. As a result of this all TSL umpiring activities will now be handled by AFL Tasmania and their coaching staff and our regional based appointments and coaching (SFL, Old Scholars, ODFA, STJFL) will be handled by us as an Association.

At this time I would like to stress that in a practical sense nothing will change from previous season’s – except for the fact that there will be more coaching staff looking after our umpires.

If anyone requires further clarification around the TSL or the TFUA’s relationship with AFL Tasmania please feel free to contact TFUA President Paul Bidgood (0400 812 460).

Last Tuesday night we had the pleasure of announcing the TFUA Coaching staff for Season 2010. The TFUA Executive Committee would like to congratulate these men on their appointments and look forward to working with them for Season 2010. The coaching appointments are:

FIELD UMPIRES COACH DAVID McGUINNESS

FIELD UMPIRES ASSISTANT KIM DILLON

BOUNDARY UMPIRES ASSISTANT STEVE FENTON

GOAL UMPIRES COACH BOB WEBB

GOAL UMPIRES ASSISTANT GREG SMITH

EASTERN SHORE CO-ORDINATOR JASON HARRIS

At present we have not filled the position of Boundary Umpires Coach within the TFUA due to a lack of applicants. We are currently working with a number of people to secure someone for this position, however if you would like more information regarding this position for 2010 please contact the Association Administrator Sam Cure at .

On Wednesday the 17th of March we will be holding our TFUA Registration Day at North Hobart Oval from 5.30pm. This evening will coincide with the AFL Umpiring Roadshow where AFL Field Umpire Matt Stevic and AFL Goal Umpire Adam Wojcik will be present to take training and assist with skill drills and speak to our members.

After training we will hold a BBQ and registration night and we welcome all past, present and prospective members to this evening.

Please note the first official Association meeting will take place at the Domain Athletics Centre on Tuesday the 23rd of March.

Training has now re-commenced for Season 2010. Training details are as follows:

Monday’s from 5.30pm WENTWORTH PARK

Tuesday’s from 5.30pm DOMAIN CROSSROADS (SOLDIERS MEMORIAL OVAL)

Thursday’s from 5.30pm DOMAIN CROSSROADS (SOLDIERS MEMORIAL OVAL)

All present and past members are welcome at these sessions. Once again we remind you that recruitment of new umpires is always a tough thing to do – so if you are able to bring anyone who may be at all interested in any discipline of umpiring to any of these sessions it would be beneficial to the entire Association.

AFL Tasmania has recently announced the TSL Coaching Staff for season 2010 and for your information these coaches are as follows:

STATE UMPIRING MANAGER / COACH MICHAEL BROWN

ASSISTANT FIELD UMPIRES COACH GARRY KAINE (LAUNCESTON)

BOUNDARY UMPIRES COACH CAMERON LEE

ASSISTANT BOUNDARY UMPIRES COACH ADRIAN WILSON (LAUNCESTON)

GOAL UMPIRES COACH ANDREW HOGAN

ASSISTANT GOAL UMPIRES COACH DUANE SAUNDERS

State Umpiring Manager Michael Brown also announced last week that there will be an ‘Elite’ panel of ten field umpires statewide for season 2010 in the TSL. We are pleased to announce that four TFUA members will be a part of this panel of TSL Top 10 umpires for Season 2010. These people are Nick Foot, Sam Cure, Ben Lehner and Mark Tuckett. On behalf of the TFUA we congratulate these members on their appointment.
