PHILOSOPHY:

Welcome to Chaparral Physical Education! The goal of P.E. is to teach and enhance skills necessary to lead a healthy and active lifestyle and achieve life-long fitness. Activities in this class are designed to improve motor skills, sport-related skills, muscular strength and muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. Lessons will also include components that encourage positive social interaction, cooperation, and individual responsibility. Our goal for each student is to learn new skills to be active, enhance social interaction and cooperation with students, and appreciate and enjoy physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

Expectations:

 Bring CMS approved P.E. uniform (shirt and shorts, socks, closed-toed lace up tennis shoes) and CMS approved sport folder

 Students give best effort daily

 Show respect for ALL students and staff

 Follow directions, class routines, and school rules at all times

 Always practice good sportsmanship and have fun!

 Take P.E. clothes home at the end of each week and wash

Behavior Violations (The following will result in consequences, which may include referral or suspension):

 Tardiness/truancy

 Defiance, profanity, disrespect toward peers and/or staff, fighting

 Theft

 Destruction of property or equipment

Failure to Dress Out:

 Loss of points/lowering of citizenship mark.

 Excessive non-suits will lead to student referral.

 Absolutely under NO circumstances are students allowed to wear another student’s P.E. uniform.

 Check lost and found regularly for missing items.

Absences and Make-Up Work:

If a student is absent, they will be asked to complete a make-up assignment. The assignment is a worksheet, which includes 60 minutes of physical activity of the student’s choice or a written paragraph summary of a sport/fitness article of your choice. These sheets can be found in every locker room and on your P.E. teacher’s website. Make-up work is due within three days after the student returns to class. One assignment must be completed for every class missed.

Medical Excuses and Parent Notes:

 A note from a doctor will be honored for the duration of the note. Notes should be clear as to whether they are full limitation (no physical activity), or partial limitation (modified physical activity). Activity and assignments will be modified for all medical notes. The student will still be expected to dress unless they are unable to.

 Parent notes will be accepted but may only limit a student for up to three consecutive days. Parent notes must also be specific as to whether the student is on a full or partial physical limitation. Excuses beyond three days will require a doctor note. The student will still be expected to dress. Activity and assignments will be modified along with making up all fitness runs and tests prior to the end of the grading period.

PE Uniform and Materials:

A CMS approved uniform may be purchased at registration and/or from your P.E. teacher throughout the year. If you choose to opt your child out of the school offered Chaparral P.E. uniform please be informed that any black athletic shorts, and appropriate plain gray t-shirt will suffice as a PE uniform. Students may also choose to purchase a sports folder during PE or use the black registration folder. Students will begin dressing for PE classes the second week of school.
