Mr. Clinch’s Important Policies

Honors Earth Science 2017-2018

The “Ink or Pencil?” Policy:

Graphite pencils and dark blue or black inked pens are acceptable for any work handed in for a grade. Homework not turned in (only checked) and notes may be done in whatever crazy color makes you happy.

Legibility Policy: Anything that cannot be read and understood by me will be marked incorrect.

Lab Policy:

Labs are required by New York State to “sit” for the exam. If you do not have the required labs turned in, you may not take the exam. YOU CANNOT MISS ANY LAB TIME. If you are absent, the time must be made up. YOU must make arrangements Miss Ferri for any missed lab time. Labs are always due the next “day 3” in the day cycle. A late lab earns no credit, but still must be completed and turned in to take the Regents exam.

Kirk Davidson Homework Policy:

Homework is due when it is due: usually the next class day. If you have it in class and completed when it is due it earns a 100%. If you don’t have it, it earns a zero. No late homework is accepted. Some homework may be collected and graded. Graded homework is due two days after it is assigned; it will be rare. Homework passes or West’s BEST CARDs cannot be used retroactively without special permission.

Castle Learning:

Castle Learning assignments are due when they are due. It is your responsibility to get to a computer to do them before the window closes. The grades will be the score earned on the Castle Learning.

The Bob Wood Pop Quiz Policy:

Bob Wood and I believe that pop quizzes are not fair and do not assess whether you’ve learned the material. We will not have them.

The Nancy Turner Test Grade Policy:

I give hard tests; the Regents Exam is hard. When no student in any of my Regents Classes earns a 100%, the highest grade is elevated to a 100% and all students earn the same number of additional points (called Nancy Turner Points) which are added to the test grade.

The No Name, No Grade Policy:

Anything turned in with no name will not be graded. This includes labs. A person not turning in an assignment, project, test, or quiz will earn a zero.

The You Are Responsible for You Policy:

When you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what work was missed and to do it. This can be accomplished by asking about what you missed from a class mate, or checking my web page. This is not done in disruption to science class. Extra handouts of missed assignments are located in the vestibule. Missed work must be made up within two days of your return unless otherwise arranged. Project dates, quizzes or tests will not be rescheduled due to absence regardless whetheryou’reabsent on the date or the day before.

Calculating Your Quarter Average:

20% HomeworkCastle Learning Assignments

25% Quizzes (usually 5 or 6 per quarter)

35% Tests (usually 1 or 2 per quarter)

20 % Labs & lab quizzes

Quarter averages may be discussed anytime outside of normal science class with appropriate permission.
