PARTICIPATION IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Participation in Phys. Ed. is not optional; a major medical concern requires a note from a parent or guardian explaining the nature of the injury, and, when the student can resume participation. When a long recovery period is required, an alternate assignment may be assigned for evaluation purposes. Activity will be modified for minor illness or injury but participation is still expected.
FOR YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY: It is imperative that students with asthma, allergies, diabetes or other health concerns, make themselves known to their teacher. This helps both the student and the teacher to preserve a safe environment in the class and ensures a successful year. Thank you for your understanding.
CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS
GYM STRIP: You may purchase school shorts and shirts from the Phys. Ed. Team; or wear your own athletic attire (ensure gym strip from home is a black or green shirt and black bottoms). We encourage that you purchase the Sherwood Gym Strip as it has the school logo and establishes “school pride.” A school gym shirt is required for all school teams. Please ensure gym clothing is washed at least once a week.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY: Physical Education will include outdoor units year round. Physical Activity in our Canadian climate can be very beneficial and enjoyable as long as you are prepared for the weather conditions. Please ensure you have a change of clothes appropriate for the weather. It is recommended to wear layers in cool and cold weather conditions.
FOOTWEAR: For both student safety and the gym flooring athletic shoes with non-marking solesand a good grip are required for PE. Shoes must be fully laced up; sandals, street shoes, boots or heels are inappropriate footwear.
