Morrow Elementary SAC Meeting Minutes
Date: November 18, 2016 at 7:30 A.M.
Members Present: Jean Vilus, Jo-AnnBrazle, Christine Campbell, Sharon Schwartz, Laurel Crowle, Rossana Guzman, MirielleImbert, Marcia Pasqualin.
- Welcome and Introduction
- Review of Minutes
- One grammatical adjustment to be made (10 d.)

- All persons present were in favor of minutes.
- Review of School Improvement Plan
- Making improvements
- Intervention and enrichment program
- Small groups are created for students.
- Groups created for students that are below grade level according to BASS Assessment analysis
- Parents are encouraged to ask questions of teachers in an effort to help students as much as possible with services that are available.
- School has many resources- Bilingual staff, Social Services, RTI, etc…
- Main focus is to strengthen RTI plan and improve and increase school hands-on projects
- SMART Future Updates
- SMART Bond
- Morrow Elementary School will be getting additional computers
- 3rd grade students will have their own devices
- K and 2nd grade will have a minimum of 3 computers and a rotating cart
- Opening opportunities for younger grades
- Extended hours for Computer Lab in the morning (7:30am)viaMs. Mason;we are looking to expand to the afternoon to give students an opportunity for self-improvement.
- Program for English Language Learners to assist parents and students whose first language is not English (letter will be sent home)
- We have several enrichment activities such as:
- Chorus
- Science Project
- Novel Studies
- (we are also working on differentiating instruction for students)
- Parents are welcomed to visit or volunteer. Parents may apply on line or visit the front office.
- Field Day on Monday- Volunteers welcomed and must be approved by Broward County
- Art program --- The art bus will be coming to Morrow Elementary to have students participate in art activities.
- Our 4th graders are working on creating a mural.
- Parents are encouraged to communicate ideas by phone, email, or other
- Science Fair—February-Save the Date Flyer will be sent to parents
- Ms. Pasqualin works with high achievers and gifted students
- We will be having ELO camps. Students will meet for intervention or enrichment during the 8-9am block.
- Example of enrichment: Writing club where students write the school newspaper
- Coding club will be coming up in December
- Allows children to explore coding skills
- Morrow Elementary ranked 10% in Math in state of Florida— Governor Rick Scott sent a letter to DrCrowle recognizing the achievement (parents were given letter for review at SAC meeting)
Parent: -- how can you volunteer? (Parent was directed to see Ms. Stacey in the Office for paperwork process)
- Option open to parents to have SAC at 7:30
- Current date for next SAC to stay as originally scheduled
- Parental Input in Decision Making (SIP, SAC, SAF)
- A+ Funds – More information will be forthcoming
- Money will be given to teachers and staff members
- SAC makes final decision
- Open for proposal for distribution of funds
- Before and after school Child Care
- JCC aftercare review was outstanding
- Option to bring to the attention to SAC other providers that are available for aftercare
- Recommendation: stay with current aftercare provider JCC
- Motion to continue with JCC: Mrs. Plummer
- 2nd by Ms. Eliott
- Vote: Unanimous
Parent: What is JCC? My daughter is a little behind. (Parent asked about afterschool care program)
* Ms. Schwartz (JCC director) and Dr. Crowle (Principal) addressed issue
Actions to be taken:
- Speak with parent to clarify questions
- Clarify what JCC is and its function
- Explain RTI process
Parents were also informed of request forms available in the front office which they cancomplete to receive a call back concerning any concerns they may have
- Options for next year— proposals for first Day Wed. Aug 16 or Monday Aug 21st, last day Tuesday, June 6.
