Moray Coast Medical Practice – Lossiemouth

Lossiemouth is a small town, known as the Jewel of the Moray Firth. It is situated on the beautiful Moray Firth Coast at the mouth of the River Lossie and approximately 5 miles from the town of Elgin and a local DGH. There is a host of information about the town that can be found on the local community website at The region contains a wealth of possibilities for the outdoor enthusiast with fantastic beaches, a golf course on the door step and endless opportunities for water sports. Mountains and ski slopes are within an hours drive into the Cairngorm National Park..

The Practice is at 10100 patients and growing. We have one large purpose built 8 year old medical centre and 2 old small part time branch surgeries within 7 miles of the main surgery. Their future is uncertain, but one of thebuildings is owned by the partners and one has a further 7 years on its lease. The main site is a bright airy building that we have just about filled to capacity. We work alongside our DN/HV/Social Care team and have a number of visiting consultants. There is an NHS Dentist in the same building.
We have a predominantly part time medical team of 6 GP partners and a salaried GP. We have 2 ANPs who cover our 'emergency' on the day stuff alongside a duty doctor. We have a nurse team of 6 and an admin team of 12. The team are a happy bunch with a casual but professional attitude, and our philosophy is very much to treat patients as we would want to be treated ourselves.
The clinical team are a nice age group mixture with the young in their early twenties spreading right though to 60 with everything in between. Some individuals have been in post for years and a couple are new to the job in the last year. Our current vacancy arises from a salaried GP emigrating to Dubai.
We are busy - about 1400+ contacts per week, we choose not to work extended hours but this may change with the GP contract changes of 2017. We were a high QOF scoring practice and await the NHS Scotland changes. We participate in all other LES/DES.
The practice is keen to support teaching and have two GP trainers (and usually two GP trainees), we also take the military GP trainees. We have the usual raft of student nurses/HV/DNs/Midwives and we do some VTS practice manager training too.

We are situated next door to the RAF station, which doesn’t seem to heavily impact on our practice profile which mirrors the national curve. Our chronic disease prevalence is high in some areas but the Moray area disease prevalence rate is high.

The Practice website is available at but feel free to give our Practice Manager, Alison Frankland a ring on 01343 816339/0345 3371190 who will be happy to chat, answer questions and to organise a time to speak to one of the team for further information.
