“MOON-RAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS” HOMEMADE MOONCAKES BAKED TO A SECRET HONG KONG RECIPE MAKE

THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVITIES

EXTRA SWEET AT THE PENINSULA SHANGHAI

In celebration of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival on Sunday 27 September, The Peninsula Shanghai presents the “Moon-rageously Delicious” Homemade Custard Mooncakes, plus a gourmet selection of The Peninsula Mooncake gift sets. An exclusive Mooncake Making Master Class for media guests hosted by Chef Yip Wing Wah, The Peninsula Hotels’ Dim Sum Ambassador and creator of the secret Peninsula Mooncake recipe, will add celebrity appeal to the seasonal celebrations. From mid July through August, Chef Yip will also meet customers at the bespoke Mooncake Store located at The Lobby, and every 50th handmade mooncake gift box will be specially autographed by Chef Yip.

Hand-crafted in the Yi Long Court kitchens using a closely guarded Hong Kong recipe, the delicious custard mooncakes have become coveted Mid-Autumn Festival gifts shared between family, friends and colleagues. The famously light and delicate mooncakes are the result of Chef Yip adapting a classic recipe, and The Peninsula Shanghai has inherited this fine tradition of mooncake making. The handmade custard mooncakes use only the finest ingredients, plus time-honoured wooden molds and hand-rolling techniques. A strict temperature control of 24 degrees Celsius is applied and a stringent cooling procedure is used after baking. The result is an exquisite mooncake made to share.

The Moon-rageously Delicious Mooncake Masterclass will enable invited media guests to learn the kitchen secrets of Chef Yip, who began his career as an apprentice dim sum chef in 1966, joined The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Spring Moon restaurant in 1986 and is now Dim Sum Ambassador for The Peninsula Hotels. Masterclass participants will learn to carefully prepare the mooncake dough and special filling, use a traditional mold to shape the mooncakes and then bake them to golden perfection. During August, younger masterchefs can participate in a special Art-rageous Kids Academy class to learn the secrets of baking the Moon-ragaeously Delicious Peninsula Mooncakes.

In addition to the eight-piece Yi Long Court Homemade Custard Mooncake gift box (RMB 388), the legendary Peninsula Mooncakes are also available at The Peninsula Boutique. These fine-quality mooncakes have long been a cherished part of the festive season in Hong Kong, and Shanghaigourmands can again savour the sumptuous ten-piece Premium Mooncake gift box (RMB 980) featuring a White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Four Yolks, a Golden Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Four Yolks, two Mini Date Paste Mooncakes with Sunflower Seeds, two Mini Pineapple Paste Mooncakes, two Mini Dried Mandarin Peel Mooncakes and two Mini Red Bean Paste Mooncakes with Yolk.
