Doug will stay as a councilmember until 2016. If a councilmember would like to run, he/she can run for an officer position. Chris Hartley is willing to run for president-elect.

Action items:

  • We should update bylaws and change the term for 2 years and should update addendum (Norm Berg etc.). When we send out elections can also vote on the highlighted changes.
  • Should shoot for holding elections in November.
  • Lara will send around updated document and description of elections and changes.

Grant scholarship idea:

We need to find a lead for this effort. No one on the call is interested/willing to spearhead the scholarship. We also discussed emailing out the NCC members about the group and asking if anyone would be interested in joining the scholarship grant committee. Noel suggested we look for other organizations who provide grants and have a goal/mission that is similar to ours; we can give them a lump sum of funding to go towards the “joint” award.

Action items:

  • Find someone to lead the grant effort
  • Email NCC members and ask if anyone is interested in joining a committee

Recruiting and retaining chapter members:

We discussed the vision of SWCS and brainstormed about NCC’s role and what SWCS NCC has to offer to the community. Doug also mentioned the idea of starting an endowment.Noel explained why AWRA has been so successful with recruiting members and holding events.

Action items:

  • Rich and Doug will collaborate and think about options for our next monthly call.

SWCS conference update:

Michelle updated us on the SWCS National Conference, highlights included a powerful and thought-provoking plenary speech by Chief Jason Weller on agriculture and climate change. She mentioned there was not much discussionon conservation targeting.
