Monroe Elementary
School Community Council
Thursday, January 11th, 2018
Welcome
Attending: Dave Holt, Brenna Clark, Mindy Harding, Becky Young
Review Minutes:
LAND/Trust Update - Student Data:
3:57- 4:02pm - Next year we might have a problem hiring new paras since we let them all go this year and they have since moved on to new jobs or retired. Funds next year will be allocated to Successmaker for teacher to access while collaborating and afterschool programs, we are still keeping the licences for the computer lab. Council likes what Amanda is accomplishing this year, she will be able to present current data next month after middle of the year DIBELS data is available.
Course and Student Enrollment Priorities:
3:50-3:53 pm - Attendance has gone down from month to month by -1.92, January had the most absences so far. Enrollment is showing a downward trend this school year.
Budget and Expenditures: (data collected, review progress)
3:56-3:57pm - Dave has a budget meeting on the 24th with the Title 1 Director. Budget is balanced on paper, but changes not getting reflected so it may look out of balance.
Review Safe Technologies and Digital Citizenship Reports:
3:53-3:56pm - Internet safe website beinternetawsome.withgoogle.com have students would do this during collaboration. More hands on instead of an assembly, and on the same media that we are trying to educate them about.
Title 1 Updates:
4:02-4:05pm - We should be getting Title I funds next year, unlike this year making us 30% short. Monroe is the poorest school in the district with 92% of students on free/reduced lunch. Granite school district is the poorest district and went down a further 20% this school year. Since the taxes have been raised has the school seen the money being used, Yes, it has increased teachers salaries this school year already.
PTA Updates:
4:05-4:12pm - PTA still has a lot of chocolate left over from Christmas, they should be able to send back at least 65 boxes, hoping to send back 100. Santa’s shop made a profit of $100 (but they don’t do it to make money). They needed more parent support and even offered parents sitting in the hall $5 to help but no one would volunteer. Dave heard about redoing PTA membership drive, Mindy will find out more information at her next meeting. Becky suggested we team up with the Family Center, the coordinator is bilingual and has parents attending her computer classes. She can help get more parents involved and PTA can change meeting times to accommodate parent schedules.
Review the Child Access Routing Plan or Safe Walking Route: (Due to the District Traffic Safety Committee by April 30)
Public Input:
4:13-4:14pm - Mindy can’t find the dual immersion application on Monroe’s website. Dave will get that fixed, meanwhile the application can be accessed on the district site under DLI.
Next Meeting is Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 at 3:30. Invite Amanda for an update.
