MononaCounty Engineer Job Opening & Information

MononaCounty is seeking qualified applicants for the position of County Engineer.

Preferred education and experience: Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering college or university, an Iowa Professional Engineering License in Civil Engineering, and six to nine years of experience. All applicants will be considered including recent college engineering graduates seeking to obtain their Civil Engineering License.

MononaCounty, population less than 10,000is located in Western Iowa between Sioux City and Omaha, Nebraska. Onawais the county seat and home to approximately 2,900 residents. The County is under the authorization of a three(3) person Board of Supervisors. The engineering department has two (2)administrative employees and the roads maintenance department has thirty (30) bargaining unit employees. The current roads and transportation budget is $ 5,393.165.

The County Engineer plans, coordinates, assigns and supervises all engineering and construction work performed by the county secondary roads department and independent contractors. In addition, the Engineer will prepare and let contract documents for projects, and present an annual budget and a five-year construction program identifying future road improvement projects. The Engineer makes personnel recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for their consideration and consent. The ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department personnel, other government agencies, other county departments, contractors and the public is essential. Previous county engineering experience is preferred. Registration as a land surveyor with the State of Iowa is preferred. Qualified candidate must have a valid Iowa motor vehicle operator’s license.

Estimated annual salary rangeis $95,000 to $105,000 depending on education and qualifications and licensing. Benefits include four (4) weeks’ vacation and state retirement plan. Monona County offers several choices for health insurance coverage with the County paying 100% of the single plan and 84% of the single/plus and family plan.
