Money to Play With – What Do You Want?

Martlesham Parish Council, Martlesham Heath Householders and Suffolk Coastal District Council are working together on a project for sports facilities in Martlesham. We have some funding available for use within Martlesham and following an earlier consultation and some initial researchthree possible proposals are being considered: a trim trail within Martlesham, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at the Recreation Ground, and a Bike Trails Pump Track at the Diamond Jubilee Bike Trails site. We believe we have enough to fund one or more of these projects and our decisions will be based on your responses. If response is good, other sources of funding may also be available to us so that we can provide more, so do let us know what you think!

1.Trim Trail

We could provide a Trim Trail of about 5km, which might be extended to 8km(5 miles)but this would depend on agreement from landowners. The trail would be signposted through the Parish of Martlesham and would have stopping points for exercise to help improve balance, co-ordination, flexibility and build strength

2.MUGA

A Multi Use Games Area could be sited at Martlesham Recreation Ground (entrance between The Red Lion and Sandy Lane). This could provide facilities for a range of sports. We anticipate that it could be used informally with users just turning up and playing (ie no booking.) We do need to know which sports you would want to play so that suitable facilities can be provided and the correct surfaces installed as requirements vary from sport to sport.

3.Bike PUMP Track

The Diamond Jubilee Bike Trails facility has been popular but it has the disadvantage that users need to help maintain the dirt jumps which wear and can get muddy. For anyone unfamiliar with the site, access to the Bike Trails is signposted off Main Road near Laburnum Gardens. We could provide more solid jumps and improve the surface to make the whole area more stable and attractive to users.
