Dear Parents,
It was wonderful to meet so many of you on Friday. We are off to a good start. This is a wonderful group of second graders. The children are excited about second grade, especially looking forward to First Penance, Holy Eucharist, and cursive writing. Thank you for all your time and support keeping the children going as they make a difficult transition. I have many of the supplies, but it is important for a smooth start that your child has all his/her supplies. The supply list is on the website if you have misplaced your copy.
We will start ourspecial classes tomorrow so I wanted to give you a heads up. As you can see the children will need to arrive in school in their P.E. uniform on Tuesdays. The schedule for our extra classes is:
Monday– Science Lab, Spanish, and Social Studies
Tuesday –Physical Educationand Social Studies
Wednesday –Library and Spanish
Thursday –Music andArt
Friday – Mass, Computer, andGreat Books
In second grade the children will share their birthday treats during snack. If you choose to send a treat on your child’s birthday please send it in with your child in the morning. The treat must be an individual treat, but please keep in mind the wellness program guidelines. No cupcakes, brownies, or other sugary treats. Also, treats may not be from a facility or plant where they have nuts. Most products that are okay are clearly marked ***nut free. Please send napkins, too. (No drinks.) We have 24 children. If you choose an ice cream treat you have to orange it with the cafeteria at least 1 week in advance. Ice cream treats are not offered on Friday due to the pizza distribution.
Since the children have a very limited time to get settled in the morning I appreciate the extra effort to get your child here on time. The children need to be here at 7:50am, but it is even more helpful if they are here at 7:40 AM.We are also working on silence starting at 7:50am allowing each child time to settle into the day before announcements. Then the children will “freeze” when the announcements begin. This helps each child show respect for the speaker, as well as the children trying to listen to the speaker. Forbookkeeping purposes, I must have a written note from you if your child is absent even though you called the office.
I am sending home the first book club flyers today for your overview. The book orders will be due Friday, September 8th. I thought the extra time would help make your decision time easier. You are never obligated to buy books; it is meant to give you access to book purchases. The book orders can come to school in one envelope. All Scholastic clubs can be combined in one check. Checks must be made payable to the book club. St.JamesSchool cannot cash the checks for book clubs. Please put Book Order, your child’s name, and 2-8 on the outside of the envelope. You may also order online using my teacher code GJVG3 . Thank you for your help.
I look forward to seeing all of you on Back to School Night, Sept. 5th at 7PM. You can
e-mail me at the AOL address instead of the school website if you choose. During the day it is better to leave a voicemail on extension 168 since I do not always have an opportunity to check emails. Also, I donot normally check emails after 8pm. Thank you for your help.
God bless you,
