Jessie and Pat Barman were surprised early Saturday morning. They looked outside and saw an alligator swimming in their pool. They called the Humane Society. It sent people to catch the alligator. The workers caught the alligator quickly. They moved it to a swamp outside of town.
This is not the first time this has happened. Hundreds of alligators are taken from pools each year in Florida. In most cases, no alligators or people get hurt. People should not try to catch wild animals by themselves. They should call an expert to do it for them. That is the best way to stay safe.

John Glenn

John Glenn was a famous astronaut. That means he travelled in space. He was born in the year 1921. He is best known for having been the first American to orbit the earth. Glenn received many awards for his work. One was called the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. Later in his life, he became a U.S. senator. He served in the Senate for 25 years. In 1998, he became the oldest person to fly in space. At the age of 77, he flew on a space shuttle mission.
Passage 2

Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was a pilot who took many risks. She was the first woman to fly alone across the Atlantic. She set many other records, too. Earhart was the first woman to receive a special flying award. It was the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross. She also wrote books about being a pilot. In 1937, she tried to fly around the world without stopping. But she did not make it. People still don't know what happened to her. Earhart is remembered for being a brave and great flyer. She has inspired many women to become pilots and to achieve great things.
