Which sentencebestsupports the idea that school years were shorter in the past?

Old School Days

American schools are different now than they used to be. In the 1800s, classrooms had few supplies.Students and teachers did not have money to buy school supplies.Students instead carried and wrote on tiny chalkboards, called slates.Teachers also taught and tested students by reading aloud.
School years lasted a short time. Some schools in farming towns were only open a few months a year. Many students worked on farms for the rest of the year.
Schools were also too small to divide students by grade. One-room schools were common.Teachers at these schools worked with students of all ages at the same time.
Over the years, schools have gained more supplies, longer schedules, and more classrooms.
